Couldn’t agree more .One previous poster saved over €200 on his oil costs , doesn’t matter how wealthy or poor you are it’s a cracking saving.

Good thread this. One day I may be able to afford a Vantage once you nice people compile an equivalent parts list Easy for me to find alternative parts as I have an early DB7 i6 so many Jag parts fit. The AM prices though are really silly
e.g. differential pinion oil seal - AM £92.58
The same part from Britparts and it comes in a Jaguar branded packet is £9.49.
Do AM not realise they are pricing owners such as me (maybe I should 'swop' it) out of buying spares from them which must surely impact on their profits. Its a short sighted policy.

This is the truth of it. Just ask for a tour of Works during the week and see how many people are on the payroll. I'm not defending the ridiculous prices some things carry (two grand for the black window trim on a previous gen Vantage), but with heavy discounting on new cars by most dealers (yes I appreciate AML stand some of that cost), they need to get the profit from somewhere, and big shiny showrooms cost a shed load to run.I'd certainly be arguing the point if they were quite openly taking the piss, like £100 for a £10 part, but when it comes to the straight servicing costs I just kind of swallow it and accept what it is. To be fair though, I don't think AML Fixed Service prices are bad at all. My mates 991 GTS costs more to service at Porsche Silverstone than my V12S does at Works. For me, having the Works stamp is worth paying that little extra at service time.
However, when it comes to "other" non service stuff, then I'll be shopping around as much as the next man.
Are there a good number of independents you'd trust with your Aston? I dont have one yet (looking for a 4.7 manual roadster) and it is a bit if a concern on maintenance costs. With porsche and BMW they are plentiful enough, and are so accepted by owners for service history (as at least as good as and sometimes more knowledgeable than the dealers, for older cars anyway) that you'd find the dealers price-matching rather than lose the trade
There are a great network of Aston specialists and AM dealers do fixed price servicing thats similar to indy prices for the yearly service. A fixed price service at an AM main dealer is often less then premium car service like BMW M and Audi RS cars. Ive had hot Audis myself and a friend had a V8 in recent years, his service bills were usually double what my were on the Vantage, so its not just an Aston trait, its main dealers in general.
However, when the bill can ramp up is when you need more than the standard service and the dealer will only supply official parts at off the shelf prices versus aftermarket alternative parts. You dont have to pay the prices if you have alternatives available. I tend to do all the easy consumable jobs myself like discs, pads, plugs, filters and just have a dealer fixed price service to maintain the service history. Depends if you have the tools and like working on your own car I guess.

Like others I am fortunate to be able to do all my own servicing and repairs. My car being older (1995) has some dealer and some 'ordinary' garage service stamps but at least it was serviced throughout its first 60,000 miles. I'm not sure taking it to a dealer for the service & stamp will make much difference now. Part of the ownership buzz for me is working on the car. I can't get enough.... yes, I know.....
For those of you with newer cars I can well imagine it is worth paying that extra though especially come sale/trade in time.

Ouch! I was looking into replacing the brightwork on my V12V with the "stealth" look matte black look. But for £2,000 for parts alone I may look into wrapping...bogie said:

This has been suggested several times over a number of threads.It's such an obviously useful idea.
Unfortunately it never happens.

Come on moderator team. Could you work with those suggesting in a group PM to agree some wording for a thread and then curate it so that yes the thread may be long but all the useful stuff sits at the top in a nice order?
Similalry a sticky on How To would be useful. A forum I was on for a long time had a specific subsection for this and the there was a sticky in which the threads were grouped ny the mod team (body, engine bay etc) and hyperlinks provided to the threads in the balance of the folder. It was an awesome resource of knowledge.
