Given the amount of negativity and criticism that the current lineup receives on this forum, perhaps another question could just as easily be: Would you be happy if the future lineup of Astons was exactly the same as it was six or seven years ago ?

Or, in the case of a car with huge sales figures, named 911, much further back than 6 or 7 years ago.

Presumably the designer keeps saying, "I have not changed much for our new model, but it still seems very popular, so I think I have got away with it yet again.

I just hate the new 911s have gotten so much larger. A 997 was the perfect size, but if they wanted to do a GT car, they should have done something else than just increase the size of the 911, maybe a modern 928 or something.

It will be interesting to see the weight on the db12.

That seems to have always been the pattern with most car manufacturers. Each time a new model is announced, they proudly say more leg room for the back seat passengers, more width for all occupants, more power and improved suspension.

After making the model bigger numerous times, they then introduce a new small car. Eg. Polo was the size of the original Golf and Fiesta was the size of the original Anglia/Escort.

I suppose you don't want to stand on a stage to launch a new model then say, same size in the back, no more shoulder room, same engine as before, but please buy it anyway.

If the AMG engine was sacrilege, then how would you describe Chinese ownership and all the strings attached to it?

Not necessarily a bad thing. The owners are not the product, they just carry financial liability. That company has already been owned in full or part by private Italians, Canadians and Americans, corporate Americans, various middle eastern concerns and many others. Indian ownership hardly harmed JLR. It may be the only chance the company has got.

Rear end lovely… front end not so much.
And the footwell looks like it might be quite tight for those of a ‘fuller figure’…

looks like a DB11 mk2. I honestly could not tell the difference from the rear.
Interior is clearly a huge step forward. Front end is hard to tell as the page pics are a bit distorted I think.

Center console looks too bulky and the screen seems too small.

Front grill seems to match the DBX 707.

The interior is all I've hoped for (beside the touch buttons on the steering wheels).
Exterior looking nice too, but pics don't do it justice.

For a facelift I would give it a 10 out of 10.

Well done AML !

10 out of 10 for a facelift - yes, except it isnt and we’re being told its a whole new model!

I think its a huge improvement all round. Splash of v12v and dbs at the front - much nicer, back end identical. Hugely improved interior. Shame they killed off the V12TT tho.

Regardless its clearly a DB11.2 (in porsche terms) not a db12

For Christ’s sake hehe

I think that new front is about 10 times worse than the DB11.

Big shut like across the front so done away with the drama/specialness of the forward hinged bonnet? (And spoiled the lines?)

And the interior just looks like a modern Porsche’s to me. No elegance or style whatsoever.

Crap, really.

The side profile looks good as does the rear..... but that’s just mainly DB11.

I’m sure the Chinese will love it and it’s stupid gaping gob. I don’t frown

Please no, at least not while they are still putting ICE in them.

Traditionally,

Lotus = light weight, minimalist, handling emphasized over power.

Aston = weight of little concern, sporting luxury, power emphasized over handling.

I wish they would keep it that way. I'll concede that they have tried to break some of the tradition: VH Astons have handled rather well, and since the Elige twins, Lotus have decided it's OK to pack on a few extra pounds, but I think the cars have largely stayed true to the stereotypes.

In the not too distant future it won't matter any more, as the Emira is supposedly the last of its kind, and Lotus will fully embrace electric. By that time, no doubt someone else will have bailed out Aston again, with an all electric plan, too. Count me out at that point.

I suppose the Db4, Db5, db6 were all actually quite darn similar.

The marketing hyperbole does not match the picture. “We bring down the curtain on the category we invented more than 70 years ago. And open the door to a whole new driving experience” I have to say I was expecting something better.
