Hi all,
Pick up my new T350 tommorrow morning(this should be my last sleepless night this week).I was wondering if anybody out there has fitted a road angel to their car?.If so, how have you made it look a neat install and hidden most of the cabling??.
Already purchased road angel for new car but ideally I dont want all the associated cabling running over the dash.

I also didn't fancy all the wiring so tried the Snooper S4Neo, which works really well. It's also dead easy to transfer between cars and motorbikes too.

Tried my Angel under T350 dash, it loses signal from time to time on ervy journey; Murphys law it will be at wrong moment!
So I've used the rubber pad & sat it on top of lower dash, with all cabling hidden by stretching coil a bit while running it towards steering column, then back under dash to cigar lighter. So far it's staying put.

I tried slotting it in front of the cigar lighter in the cubby hole but had the same problem of losing signal so have done the same as tail slide. It works, its neat but it does slide off when really going for it! Easy to cure with a bit of double-sided tape but I don't want to spoil the looks of the dash when I take the RA out so I just live with it. It happens so rarely that it ain't a problem!

Has anyone with a Road Angel any proof that the Laser Detector works, either as a warning or confirmation that you've been done.

Tried zapping it with remote controls with no effect.

Point is, it looks so ugly stuck on the screen, if it doesn't do anything I'll get rid of it and rely on the GPS only

Slightly nervous about answering this - tempting fate etc. but "No" never had a reading so far.

Lazer detector definately works, in fact road angel goes crazy!
Test driving an Audi TT for the girlfriend and salesman warned me about police with lazer on route, so went past again in T350 to test the road angel, worked a treat!

Can you describe what happened in a bit more detail - example - how far away from the "gun" were you , what happened, what was the outcome? etc...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the laser warning just confirm you've been zapped and it's too late to do anything about it......

I find that the best form of detection is the rearview mirror and keeping a look out for unmarked cars! Mind you I did get caught on the M6 at 74.9 mph by a marked car that followed me for 2.1 miles!! I blame radio 2.

Tvr made a shelf covered in leather and a spare cigar lighter point in the passenger footwell so as to hide the lead for mine. The unit picks up the sattellite through the windscreen and never misses a beat.

On saying that the radar detector that was extra was useless and I have never bothered using it.

If the road angel alerts and says "mobile" it is a lazer as far as I am aware, it flashes like mad and alarm also goes mad. Basically I think if it alerts then the lazer is pointing at you, but obviously you only get done if you are breaking the speed limit.
The alert went off at a fair distance ?750-1000 yards?.
I'm not sure if they only need a single reading to do you or it needs to be over a certain distance?
Anyway lets hope we don't get done, although a mate from work got 3 points on the motorway, caught by lazer, for 78 mph!!! Crazy
May get a 70mph restrictor on the silver bullit!
Maybe not.

That seems a little harsh, unless of course you were towing something at the time?

I've had the "Mobile" alert several times but this can be because someone has "entered into the database" as being a location that sometimes has mobile patrols. I have had no experience of being zapped and then seeing evidence of a copper with a radar gun.

I don't use the mobile laser detector option any more either, I decided it neeed slinging out after it helpfully bleeped last year announcing that I'd been zapped for 5 points (1st time in 20 yrs).

RA's theory is that it will bounce off the cars in front, but depends on you being behind a stream of traffic that are travelling fast enough to be targetted by a mobile operator, instead of waiting for the rather sporty TVR coming up behind! Cynical? Who, me?

It seems, from all the replies that no-one has had a laser alert (mobile) and then seen evidence of being zapped. I find that quite wierd?

My laser alert flashed up 'mobile' as I was zapped - evidence came in the post shortly afterwards!

At the Motor Show yesterday saw the new Road Angel

It is a considerable improvement on the old one including :-

Single smart smaller unit with integral laser detector - no more stick on black ball
Large display, large clear buttons
Clock function
Voice alert - apparently Tiff Needell !!!! but you can turn it off
Congestion Charge area and school alert
Compass
Better advice on laser alert

Altogether a much improved package for £399 but now only includes six month's subsription

If you ask nicely at the motor show they will sell it for £369 and it won't be in the shops for a few weeks

It is such an improvement on the old one I had to have one and managed to sell my old one to a friend who was with me at the show
