Some advice please. I am hoping to be in the market quite soon for either a T350 or a Tamora. This would be a second car to take out on sunny days and the occasional track day. I love the looks of the T350 but I know that I enjoy a soft top. If anyone has owned or just driven both I would appreciate your views on the differences in handling (and any other qualities) between the two cars. I understand that the T350 is an improvement on the Tamora, but are the differences great enough to compensate for having a full time roof? As an aside, should I also be considering a Tuscan?

I think it all depends on whether you are buying new or second hand, and the budget you have to spend. A few more clues will help with some advice.

Good point. I would be looking at 2nd hand. My budget is likely to stretch to high 20s low 30s. It looks to me as though there are a few T350s in this range and there are a couple of Tamoras for sale in the mid to high 20s. Oh, and I have never owned a TVR before!

I don't think the differences to the chassis are massive.

However, the t350 will be more rigid if you really intend to push the boundaries of their handling. The Tamora has depreciated quicker than the t350 (ignoring the 30k bargain in the classfieds!), though I'm not sure which you'd lose more money give the cars you're looking at have already taken the hit.

You really need to decide whether or not you need a convertible.

If I were you, I'd wait another month or two and see if the price of TVR's used soft top, speed 6 engined cars falls due to the introduction of a new model.

Darren.

Not sure that you have your facts right on this one, both cars are in current production and share the same chasis, engine, breaks etc. The obvious difference is one is a coupe and the other a rag top so ride in the coupe is a lot firmer due to the full roll cage.

suggest you test drive them both as unless you want to use it on the track I don't think you will notice much difference on the road between the two as both have excellent grip.

Thanks chaps. I am sure that any differences would only become apparent on track. I will be tracking the car but I am used to handling of 7's and more lately a Radical so I do not expect anything like the same level of handling with any TVR. Advice on waiting a while sounds good given TVR's habit of announcing a new model at the show.

personnally i would go for the Tamora but I am biased, having the roof off is great. The T350 is apparently stiffer due to the roll cage, the Tamora has been out longer so hence why they are cheaper in some respects.
Go to a meet and see if there are owners of both, they will tell you the truth about them.

I've had a Chimera, a Tuscan Red Rose, I have a Sagaris on order (or the Rag top Sagaris not sure which yet) and I now own a Tamora.

I test drove the T350 as this car is just a stand in till I get the Sagaris.

I went for the Tamora. I think that states that I'd go fot the Tamora everytime to the T350 or the T350T

Thanks to everyone for all the feedback. I think I am erring on the side of the Tamora. Have found a few other threads and I must say that Tamora owners do seem to love their cars - even allowing for the odd quality 'quirk'. Certainly the prices are lower for an equivalent mileage/year.

I'd personally opt for the Tamora too. I would say that because I've recently bought one. I'm also a TVR 'newbie'.

You'll have to put up with some 'quirks' but I don't think they are specific to Tamoras - that's only from reading the various threads on this site.

You'll have a grand old time either way, both in looking for your car and the actual buzz of owning one. The experience of the roof down with 7k revs in 3rd is one to savour!

Enjoy!

Hi.. had a Tamora and traded it in for the T350t.. both brilliant cars and you will not regret buying either.. basically the same underneath the skin but visualy the T350 is much more pleasing to the eye with a more up to date look... and at least with either car your be getting a serious interior to much the bodywork which you can't get with your super track go-carts...

Go for the T350 its definitely a step forward from the Tamora and just from the number of cars sold and on order it's clearly evident that the T350 is the car to have! plus i think the Tamora might get a drastic makeover in the not so distant future or even come to a halt! (I think i'm spending to much time at the Factory!)

I spoke to the factory about this. They told me there are no plans to change the Tamora. I would go for a Tamora if you want wind in the hair motoring and be even less frequently seen than the T350. I am struggling to understand how or why a T350 is a better car other than body strength (perhaps) as they are the same car. Even the interior is the same. Am I missing something? Eitherway I love all TVR's and in less than 3 weeks our car should arrive!

I have to agree re- the preference for the T350 over the Tamora, in fact, it baffles me! Personally, the whole point of owning a sports car is being to feel the wind in your hair, (or, at least, whats left!! )
Although, I havent taken the roof off much yet, a), because of the weather, and b), I still can't seem to put the bloody roof in the boot without causing Cat 1 damage to the back!! lol

Bet you can't wait Maddog, I preference would have been yellow if I had the extra £££s to spend , maybe next time.

The more I see the Tamora in the flesh the more I like it. We have a T350 which I love to bits, but if I really wanted a convertible I would go for the Tamora. If you weren't bothered about a ragtop then the T350 would be the way to go.

As has been said, take both of them out for a test drive, you'll soon decide which one you like better

Chris

My parents live down in Prestbury and we often go down for the day, so may be in the summer I will head over to the forest and we could go for a run through the black mountains or over monmouth way.

regards

Simon

PS on the boot / roof thing I read on here about a spacer mod you can do that really helps!
