Just bought myself some new number plates and they came with some self-tappers etc.

Is it OK to screw straight into the fibre glass of the car (front) or would you drill and use little bolts & washers instead?

Hello all
New to this so a bit of an intro first.
I visited the Blackpool factory with my son-in-law a few weeks back to pick up his Tuscan (sickly engine).
To summarise I was besotted so now am dumping the BMW and getting a T350c... on Saturday hopefully.
Anyway also have had my number transferred and have some new plates on order. I was hoping to stick these on with double sided tape as I have on previous cars.
However the front of the T350 does look rather roundy so we will see, I hope the shortened plate will bend.
Apparently Halfords do different strength tape, bolting/screwing seems heavy handed to me.
Anyway I hope to contribute more in the future.

Halfords have the skicky pads if you want to go this route...

My current one is (and has stayed that way since the day I bought it) held on by sticky pads.

However, my new plate might not exactly be...ahem...standard....and so I wanted the ability to change the plate over easily; best done by screwing it in my opinion.

Other option would be velcro I suppose, but thats just plain silly

And, welcome Jeff. Another Derby T350 eh? They're multiplying!

Washers and bolts are the strongest method, may be a bit of overkill though. Self tappers are design to make there own hole as you turn them. Just don't push to hard and slip of the screw head and scratch the front end with the tip of the driver/cordless

Mine are put on (by the dealer) with double-sided adhesive pads and have had no problems

The plates have been off and replaced (by the same method) when it was back at the factory for a re-spray and seems OK still.

Rob, if you're going to James', let me know and I'll pop over (he's only 10 minutes from me). Would like to see your car.

By the way, I've fixed the noise from my panels but its not pretty.

What you need is what I have on my Chimaera - I use sticky-backed 'velcro' (actually plastic, stiff spines like you get on a child's stickle-brick) to hold mine on and it has been fantastic. I got it from a friend who has used it on his Caterham for years without a problem. The best bit is that you can just tear it off and bung it back on again, no problem.

Unfortunately, I don't know where you could buy it from, but I'll try and find out. What I would say is, DON'T USE SCREWS!

Cheers everyone. The plates also came with some double-sided pads so I'll try those first and keep my eye on it.

All I need now is for the bloody rain to stop long enough for me to swap the plates over.

While on the subject - anyone got some tips for getting the old plate off? Just pull it? Heat?

Seem to recall that mine were made up at the factory and they "form and curve" the front one in an oven.
