Knocking when applying brake

My car has developed a knocking as I apply the brake. Only seems to happen at low speeds, definitely doesn't happen when the car is stopped and, strangely, doesn't do it when reversing. Its not a constant knock-knock-knock as the car is moving, just once as I press the pedal.

I'm guessing its either the caliper or pad that is loose? If so, is it something that can be tightened up yourself or is it a visit to the garage?

I had the same problem in my Tamora:

Seemed to fix itself after a while and I didn't do anything to the car apart from drive it.

Neil I was getting a clonk when pressing the brake pedal and it turned out to be a missing shim out of one of the brake calipers. You could try removing the wheels and check they are all in place. the Dealer fixed mine

Could've got the wheels off tonight but it looks like its about to absolutely tip down with rain.

If it happens the first time you brake going forwards after reversing it is normal. IE reverse your car out of the garage then roll forwards and clunk when you touch the brakes.

That is quite normal.
