Hi, had my T350C now for 3 weeks and love it. It seems to drive fantastically well and be well sorted. Previous owner had had 14 previous tvrs and im confident had run the car in perfectly.
Now to my paranoia. With so many threads about poor reliability of the S6 engine i find that each time i drive the car im so consicious about protecting the engine that maybe i wont get full enjoyment out of this great car. Subsequently when i have put my foot down when changing into 3 then 4 etc at the higher end of the rev range im not sure if im not hearing a sort of pinking noise. Becuase majority of attention is on the rd and this only happens for a split second just before changing up im not sure if im imagining things. Anyone noticed similar, any recommendations.
i dont want many of the threads posted to take away the enjoyment but on the other hand dont want to do any damage.

ps it runs on superunleaded only and slight noise( pinking type noise ) comes just before limiter.

Cheers

Hi Nick,
I had the same little niggle with our T350c,(one of many i might add!!,)But it was soon sorted out by using 'Optimax'. As far as i am concerned the performance you get far out way the extra few pence per gallon!! If you are unable to get optimax, go to Hards and buy some octain improver, as this worked for me when i was unable to get optimax.
The Speed Six engine is also naturally 'tappety' aswell"they all do that sir".

Hi Nick,

Mine used to do this without fail (and very restricting it was too) up until its 6k service despite always using 97/98 RON fuel. It was always better with Shell Optimax than any other but at the service the dealer (Hexham Horseless Carriage) fitted the latest engine mapping chip that had just been released. Has not done it since so would suggest that you chat to your dealer and get this upgraded.

I had a similar problem on my Tuscan, in the early days. I thought it was pinking, but it was actually the exhausts headers expanding when hot and touching slightly when under full throttle around 6-7000rpm. The dealer was going to fix it with a figure 8 clamp, but before they had a chance.....you won't believe this.......it went back to the factory for a full engine rebuild and has never done it since !

I get the impression that a lot of speed sixes run rich at higher revs - it's in the mapping - bit of a bugger to get sorted but try your local dealer and se what they suggest.

My Tamora has been doing it for some time... dealer replaced the chip a couple of weeks back which seemed to sort the problem....temporarily. Unfortunately has started to do it again....

Always run it on Shell optimax (or whatever the BP equivalent is), hasn't helped....

Tries shell optimax and noise has gone away. Would it be advisable to get latest engine mapping chip though. Is it that critical

If you can get it changed under warranty I'd say do it. If you have found a cure perhaps live with it. Personally, I'd change.

Snakes,
you said that even though noise has gone away you would still get it done anyway. Not being particularly mechanically minded could you explain why.

Thanks
