i've asked for this 'problem' to be looked at on my last 3 services. there's no heat build up caused by it, just a slight metallic sound from cold. dabbing the brakes makes the noise go away temporarily, and it goes away permanently after travelling for a bit too, possibly due to things heating up generally.

any ideas? the problem always comes back despite adjustments being made. it only seems to be the ofside affected too.

Well it is either the pads, the disc or the caliper alignment. Did the problem start after a rear pad change? Have the discs ever been changed? Age/mileage on them?

thinking about it, the pads were changed around the time this started. discs bot changed since i've owned it (4 years). the pads have done about 7k i think.

not sure what make the pads are, but i'll check.

I don't think it will be the make of pad, but obviously there is an issue in the interface between pad and disc. At a guess you need to change the discs (or skim them, but they are cheap enough to buy anyway so I wouldn't bother). Why your garage can't sort this I don't know - I question their abilities or thoroughness.

btw, a fourth thing: it could be that your handbrake cable just needs adjustment/lubing, and the first time you brake it self adjusts everything.

Am I alone in thinking there's nothing wrongsmile

Even sat in the garage, discs can sometimes build a very small amount of corrossion..As I see it all that's happening, is that the disc is being wiped clean... hence the noise...
i've eliminated that. bone dry day and a really good run. it's still a 'problem' the next day without a hint of corrosion on the discs. only rear offside too.

Agreed, but if he doesn't like it and if the discs are originals then it is probably curable. Mine doesn't do it, but then I drive up/down the road after washing to clear the disc faces off before putting the car away.

I maybe missing the point here but would it not be worth removing the pads and calipers and give them a damn good clean/scrape up then re geasing them, as the pads sound as though they are slightly sticking! seems an easy option to give a go. Plus the fact that the pads do have contact with the disc all the time, albeit very slight until the pedal is pushed, doesn't seem anything to worry about

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, but is annoying. Surely people on here do jobs on their cars because something is annoying them? squeaks, rattles etc?

i don't have any of the kit, hence asking for it to be looked at at the last 3 services. maybe this should have been a 'recommend me a really thorough tvr specialist near london' thread.

Sorry didnt mean to sound patronizing, Im in the same boat, i do have the odd annoying rattles etc and also no kit or room to sort them.

Not sure how close they are to you, but i have been using Techniques Morgan situated in the village of Stotfold just of the A1M, close to Baldcock very resonable family run garage and had nothing but praise so far!!!!
