The knob on top of the gear stick came loose so I give it a good twist to tighten it up but it went further clockwise than I expected - its now pointing toward 2 o clock. Is it threaded? There doesn't seem to be any other way of tightening it up. How do I get it tight and pointing the right way again.

(can't believe I fitted so many unintentional innuendos in that - there you go Podie, Xmas has come early for you )

Neil, the knob is a pain.....

It'll come loose again....

My Solution -

1.Go to Sainsburys
2.....the Aussie Red Wine Aisle
3........Select Bottle of Hardy's Shiraz (£7.00 +)
4.Go Home
5.....Open Wine
6.........put the black plastic cork safe to one side
7..............Drink Wine
8.Take the cork you saved earlier
9.....slice in pieces across the circular section - creating lots of washers of differing thicknesses.
10.............make a hole the same diameter as the gear stick rod in each slice.
11.Dismantle the gear knob and spacer.
12.....insert one of the slices of cork in the recess of the spacer (underside) it fits snugly.
13.........reassemble gear knob and tighten.
14.......use additonal washers/different washers as required.

Priceless....
Mine hasn't been loose since.

Enjoy your wine

Ian

If you look below under the actual gear-knob itself, there is a collar. This is what you tighten. Get your knob pointing to 12 o'clock again and then tighten the collar up and you will be sorted.

Aye, but the bu66er loosens up after a few months. I'm going to try the cork method.

Failing that a bit of Loctite 601 threadlock should sort it out.

Probably does need a blob of Locktite. I tried messing with the collar but you can still work it loose with a little effort.

Certainly going to try the wine method although messing with a sharp instrument after drinking the bottle might not be such a good idea

I was playing with my knob at some traffic lights, in my old Tamora, and the bloody thing came off in my hand!

I had to quickly shove it back in before the lights changed, and whilst I was being serviced at the factory, I got them to replace the grub screw that held the shaft in the box.

There, that's a few more prize marrows for podie!!

(But it really did happen....)

It's the collar that you stick the plastic cork washer into. The problem is that the threaded hole in the knob is too long/deep and it's virtually impossible to get the knob straight and lined up once it has come loose. The plastic washer fix works well and it was a pleasure obtaining the parts! Took several bottles to get it right though
