Thanx, but wot is mechanical sympathy? Do you talk to your car?

'Do you talk to your car'

only when it's naughty

Fish says it's about 60-70 in second.

The second question all depends on the conditions in which you are overtaking and what speed the vehicle is you intend overtaking, so its a bit of a non answerable question

Nope, I listen to the car talking to me, bit wierd like that . Anyway, back to speeds in gears.
12mph or so per 1000 rpm in second. 7000 rpm gives you 84, 7500rpm gives you 90. Max power at 7200 rpm.

So if you like to rev it, 90+ in second. However just how long the engine will survive if you treat it like that is anybody's guess. As fish says 60 - 70 is sensible.

Thanx for the replies im just trying to imagine the power delivery beyond 4000 revs in any of the gears I assume it hasent got the same torque as a griff v8 and needs to be revved a bit. During the run in period im finding it difficult to keep the car in fifth at around 60mph as I feel the engine is labouring, so tend to drive everywhere in forth unless im on the motorway

That demonstates the difference between the Rover V8, with all it's torque low down in the rev range, and the speed 6 which has been designed for increasing torque with increasing revs - supposedly to help traction on getaways...

Rolex - just wait until its run in - it'll be worth it.

My T350 is reasonably quick below 3k but nothing to shout about and sounds a little agricultural... just wait until yours is run in! Further up the rev range it really takes on a different character.

As everyone on here is saying, the power delivery is completely different to the V8's, they give you neck stretching torquey acceleration from low revs - the Speed 6 however pulls more and more the higher up the rev range it gets - its a real animal and I'm sure you won't be disappointed, you won't belive how quickly that next bend approaches - or how quickly you'll get through it.

Its a very aggresive engine, no lazy torque driving here. I've never driven a car with an engine like it, there is no dropping off of power at high revs - it really gets more and more powerful right up until the change lights are going mental - the way it just keeps piling on speed is surreal, it'll quite literally make you hold your breath when your in 'the zone'.

I'm on 14k miles now and its an absolute monster, a lot of owners have said that these engines get better the more that they're used and its true.

14k miles and no engine blow-up? There'll be disappointment about that in some quarters of the United Kingdom!

That bloody speed6 engine - totally unreliable - I remember a time when you could rely on them to destroy themselves after a few thousand miles. Now look! Stonking along!! Typical of TVR - just when you think you know what to expect, there they go building high quality, reliable engines. What next? Honest power outputs from RV8's?
