I have seen a couple of the new roof design targas at dealers. The bodywork has been slightly altered with a raised lip, the rubber sel on the bodywork now sits inside this and is not exposed as on the old design. In addition the fitting latchs are at the front edge with new screw fastenings at the back edge. The inside, (apart from the panels themselves) is now trimmed in leather/lamonta/fuzz instead of bare carbon.
Looks much much more professional
Now the big question DOES IT WORK? i.e. is there les/no wind noise with roof panels on.

Another non relatedpoint what are the front speakers like-what is this silver line upgrade?

But I heard that there were no problems....no wind noise, no buffetting....

So why change the design?

Whilst still not exactly 'hi-fi' the front speakers make a massive difference. I've just had my standard two rear inadequate jobbies upgraded to Silver and had fronts installed with Silver too. You can at least hear the stereo well now at reasonable volumes and can also crank it up a little without it distorting and blowing the backside out of the feeble standard items.

All done at the factory for a very reasonable price - the door retrim looks fantastic - when I went to collect the car, the old speakers were in a box in the boot - fantastic job from the fantastic factory service department.

Highly recommended, like a said - not 'hi-fi' but certainly a step in the right direction.

Nicksey - have you got any photos of the front speaker installation? Since the Tamora has the same doors, I want to have a look and see whether it's worth getting some done before Eurohoon....

Haven't taken any of mine yet.

However here are a couple from Autoexpress' website that show them pretty well.

If you want some more detailed pics then let me know and I'll take some as soon as I can.

All the cables are hidden through the hinges - a very neat job. The Tamora rear speakers aren't as far back in the car as the T350 so I image that the sound will be even better for you.

I was very impressed with the price and the quality of the work and it certainly makes long journeys much more enjoyable - I love listening to the engine and exhaust but on the 5+ hour run it does get a little tiresome.

My T350 has the original design, I got the odd creak from the panels but didn't experience any wind noise until I removed them. Once I refitted them there was wind noise. Had another go and they were fine. There is certainly an art to getting the panels on properly, one that I most likely haven't yet mastered.

I got the front speakers too. I'd take pictures but my car is at the factory, coincidentally for (among other things) them to look at a cure for the wind noise from the panels.

I've get excrutiating wind noise from the panels >95 mph.

Not sure what TVR could do to rememdy it - can't see them offering the new roof design as a retro fit as it sound totally different. And besides that, who knows whether the new design cures it?

Bit frustrating having a 175mph car that makes you afraid to go over 100 for fear of the roof panels being ripped off and sent tumbling into the distance

I have jpeg photos(900Kb)of the new roof design.
How can I attach them to a mail on this forum?
It looks like it should be much more effective at suppressing wind noise.
I hope so because I have just confirmed my order for a Targa on this basis!

What exactly are these uprated speakers?

Can anyone give me a clue how much the factory charge to fit the front speakers to a Tamora.

Will they will fit speaker supplied by the customer as opposed to ones supplied by them.

Finally anyone know what size (diameter) they are ?

Ny car is due at the factory today and I might get them to fit a set.

Cheers,
Nick

In all seriousness one thing I hated about my Tamora was watching the roof try to work its way off when I went over 100mph (in France, obviously...) and that was why I changed to the T350 as opposed to the T350T.

Shame they dont get it right first time as it's a nightmare when your car is used as a testbed. Especially when you have paid over £40K for the privilege....

Nick, could you do me a favour? When you're up at the factory, can you ask them if they've got any offcuts of either Prussian blue leather, or dark blue Lamonta?

Sounds daft, but I cannot get through to anyone in service, and I want to trim up an extra cushion for Mrs. Nubbin to sit on.

If they're willing to let you have it, can you post it to me and I'll reimburse the costs?

(I need about 3 sq. foot, at a guess)

Cheers mate!

Hi Nubbin,

Unfortunatly it's only my car at the factory not me.
So I won't be able to ask, sorry.

The people who supply TVR with the Bison and Lamonta are www.boynett.com/ it might be woth trying them.

Take a look here www.boynett.com/bifauto3.htm
£23.95 a metre for Bison and £33.50 a metre for Lamonta

Hope this helps
Cheers,
Nick

I paid £245 inclusive of VAT to upgrade existing rears to Silver, retrim work on both front door panels and all the wiring plus the Silver speakers. Well worth it, looks fantastic and sounds much better. All retro-fit BTW.

If I remember I'll have a look at the box the upgrades came in that was in the boot with the old standard items when I picked the car up - that'll give you the specific model number of the speakers.

To get a broader soundscape I think that it still needs two tweeters for the front and some form of subtle sub (not lax-power-special-window-rattler) - but to be honest, you would need to look at an external amp to drive it and all the gubbins - which I really can't be bother with.

Flasher, 999 and co - some advice please - when you are having a TVR buffet do you put the sarnies or the tray bakes on the bonnet?

Is TVR buffetting as much fun as it sounds? Do you finish off with those Ferrero Rocher 'Mister Ambassador you spoil us.' chocolates?

I suppose it's good that the Speed Six cars can double up as Hostess Trolleys when they're indisposed.

Nubbin - how miniscule is Mrs Nubbin's rear - 3 square feet - surely you'll need much more than that?

Apologies Mrs Nubbin if you have indeed a minute ass and if your name isn't Shirley.

Just on the glovebox issue, my dealer tells me that it distorts (and mine has) on cars with air con and that they now make the glovebox covers for such cars out of a different material (as well as the revised magnetic catch). Hope to get this replaced when the car goes back for other issues later this month.

Don't mention it 999 - I thoroughly enjoyed the ride - had the best ever crap on that mobile twin commode - pity you'd taken the targa panel off - just as well you're a wipe clean baldie - so there's another use for a dead Speed Six T350T - hostess trolley, twin commode, any more ideas?
