Anyone out there seen this and know the fix?

Started car this morning - usual raft of temp warnings, I noticed that the heater controls weren't working (single light on for speed, could switch on or off or increase fan), I then realised that the time was stuck at the time that I started car and that the digital speedo & rev counter not working (dials ok) - cannot flip through screens. Pulled over and turned the ingition off, the digital display stays on (like it does if you leave the lights on - which I haven't).. anyway drove to work, thinking that thawing the car out might help, still the same - the digital display still on and instrument fan still going, I've left the car for a couple of hours in the sun now and still not switched off.

Symptoms are:-

Digital Dash not responding - time, temp, mileage, speed & revs all static (water temp off the scale at max).

Speed / temp / on & off heater controls not working.

Dash not turning off with ignition (like it does when you leave the lights on).

Really can't get to a dealer and can't afford for the car to be out-of-action - anyone out there that can help?

Cheers

Oh yeah..

Pulled out fuse 18 (Ignition to dash ECU & Door ECU) and fuse 35 (Master ingnition) but dash doesn't go off and it didn't make any difference.

could try disconnecting the battery and connecting it again?you'll need a 10mm spanner though.

I was hoping that I could just pull some fuses - I'm stuck in work, in a suit - no tools and just my fingers!!!!

Get it to your dealer - I had this problem, and it turned out to be the speed sensor on the axle had fallen off, and presumably shorted out the dash and fan electrics.

Since the sensor has been re-attached (took about 20 minutes) I have had no further problems.

There's a fuse pulling tool in the little toolbox that comes with the car

Fuse 20 (Dash ECU & EFI ECU) sorted it! Pulled fuse out for 20 secs and put it back in and were back in business.

Would have been nice if I actually got a toolkit with mine - I think that a certain dealer in Derbyshire whom shall remain nameless must be one toolkit richer - 'They don't supply the toolkit a standard anymore sir' - 'they reserve the right to change specification sir!'

....anyway.

A big thank you to you all for jumping in with sound advice so quickly - your all a real credit to the marque and the PH community.

It's with great pride that I count myself as a TVR owner and Pistonhead member.

A thousand thank you's.

Didn't realise you got your car from the same place as me. They tried that with me too - I insisted that it bloody well should come with a tool kit and got one.

Maybe I got yours?

Anyway, good to see all is well now.

I got a good toolkit with mine, even has gloves to keep your hands clean.

I have never used it mind you, must be due to the quality of the construction of the car.

It does seem to be the trend. Bought my car in October last year and was told no toolkit. To be precise I was told that the storage space where the toolkit (quite obviously) goes was "to put a CD changer in"

Dunno whether this is coming from the factory or the dealers?

Anyway, I got one with mine (complete with a cool pair of gloves that are for doing Michael Jackson impressions with I think) but only because I moaned about it enough....

I have used mine twice actually. had a fuse go, its got a great little fuse tester in it, and the wipers stopped working and I had to fix them in the rain, Torch and hex key used.

I had the CD-Changer option fitted so maybe the dealer thought they could help themselves to my toolkit.... Barstewards.

I am told by my dealer that I need a compact mirror to check levels easily so I have found this! www.rapidelectronics.co.uk/toolsmech_86-3210.htm I have no idea why though!

A bit over the top! you cannot lean over the car to see the coolant level you see, all you need is a wooden spoon acting as a dipstick which you drop inside after removing the radiater cap which gives you an indication of the level or alternatively just shove your index finger into the hole, and if it gets wet at the end its okay.
