I don't believe it. Went out for a pootle this morning, and the windscreen was hit by a huge piece of gravel - result, a vertical crack all the way down the screen, which I am sure makes it undriveable. Autoglass dont even have the Tamopra listed, no-one has it in stock, the factory is closed, the sun is shining. To say I'm pissed off is a major understatement.
What, the dealers don't have any?!?!?! Thats pathetic! To the best of my knowledge, the car is only undriveable if the crack impares the drivers view, as in, if it's in front of your face, but if on or past the centre, you should be ok! I had a dirty great crack once, got through it's MOT like it!
I've spoken to HHC, and they agree that with laminated screens, even large cracks are not a hazard. I will have to make a claim through the insurer, and be re-imbursed, because the modern computer driven insurance system doesn't allow for human problems to intrude. HHC could get a screen for Wed/Thurs next week - just brilliant when I'm on holiday for 2 weeks, at home, and an ugly crack in the screen!
Very sorry to hear of your screen trouble......last year I 'lost' two windscreens (within 7 days of each other) on the family Audi together with a headlamp on that car and both the spots on my Griff due to stone damage ( and this hardlygoes out other than for Sunday runs).......I had an idea that my road tax helped to pay for maintaining our roads but I must have been mistaken...Mr Byers obviously wants to use it to bail out Railtrack.
