Oil and electrics
Discussion
Well, the first faults are beggining to surface. I've got a small oil leak somewhere it's only tiny and a couple of drops during the night but I don't like it......
Also noticed that the car now seems to have miles too much oil in it- well, 1/2 inch over the dipstick max mark- does this mean trouble on a S6 engine? Can too much oil damage it? It's running fabulously so probably not, but should I get them to drain some out?
Then driving this afternoon, the bloody window developed a mind of it's own and started going up and down on it's own- a bit disturbing at high...ahem... speed (within the limit officer)
Had to take the bloody dash apart to free the switch which had stuck in!!!
Apart from that( and a malfunctioning heater) I haven't had any troubles in 4,500 miles and soon it will be due it's first service.

Too much oil, flash, can allow some to get into the exhaust and therefore, the catalyst, causing lots of expensive trouble. Mine is full, but not like yours. Are you following the handbook, and checking the oil level with the engine at operating temperature? There would then be a lot of oil distributed around the engine.
Just checked again and at 50 deg oil temp (it's cooled down a bit now) its reading just below full. I have jacked up the car though and there is a bit of oil underneath Maybe I'm just being panicky?
Trouble is all my previous TVR's have used about 1/2 ltr every 1000 miles and this bloody thing doesn't seem to use any? I have put less than 1/2 ltr in it in the 2700 miles I've done so far? Is this over-filling?

flasher,
watch out for the oil leaks, check autosport this week for what happened to a tuscan which got a small oil leak on to an exhaust.....ooops....one flame grilled tuscan (whole lot is burnt). you will be saddened to hear that me samuelson was following and unfortunately skidded on the oil and put his car in to the crash barriers!
come on flash we are looking for 100% reliability here..
bennno

Flasher, I had a similar problem! Managed to miss the hole when topping up with oil a few weeks back! The oil ran down the side and dried onto the block, now it drip...............drip...............drips whenever I stop the car and leaves very disconserting(sp?) marks on the road!! I just changed the oil today (the joys of owning a 9 year old car) and then took it to a pressure washer and blasted the underside and block with some nice hot water/shampoo!
Currently waiting with baited breath to see if its stopped dripping...
Try giving the bottom of the engine a good blasting and see if that makes a difference, could be the engine is heating the oil up and it's dripping off into nice little puddles!!!
