Sag judder in reverse

Just noticed this today and wondered if anyone has a clue what it might be. Symptoms - car cold, steering at full lock, intermittent judder when driving. Feels like you just reversed over something. Didn't manage to get rolling on full lock to see if it happens when clutch is in. Initially noticed it in reverse, but then had it going forward as well, once again on full lock.

Car drives normally with no adverse handling problems, but just this judder. Now the car is warm I don't notice it as much but it's still there I think. Full lock suggests steering, but I feel it through the clutch which leans towards rear end - hope not diff related).

Thanks. Looks like I'll need to get this checked out. Bizarre that such diverse problems can exhibit similar symtpoms. Note that others pointed at the diff, and have been chatting with another Tiv local who had similar symptoms which proved to be diff related.

Either way, think I'll be taking it easy until I can get it back to the garage who services it for me.

I thought this was a standard 'feature', partly down to the caster angle on the front (probably got that wrong) and partly down to the tyres maybe? I can't recall the exact sequence, but my TVR has sometimes juddered a tiny amount on full lock in the wet/ice/cold.

Edited to change camber to caster ... or is it castor?

Yes David I agree with Tags.

I have same on this Cerb plus the First one.

Also the Sl sometimes does it when pulling out the drive. Diffs normally wear progressionally. Could also be prop shaft UJ's, but I doubt either with your car with such low mileage.

Thanks guys, I'm going to monitor it for a while. Gave the car a good run out on Sunday and did not notice the fault when I got home and reversed into the driveway. Seems to be when it's cold.

I agree, I get the same when on full lock reversing out my driveway.

It's the tread blocks 'skipping' when on full lock when they're cold and hard, usually below 4 degrees, I'd guess you have a decent amount of tread depth on the fronts?

I thought that was normal. I have not driven mine for 4 months but when I put it in reverse it spins the rear wheels and it shudders like crazy.

Have two brand new tyres on the back, fronts have done 9k but still deep tread. It was certainly cold when I noticed it, zero degrees and the car had been standing for quite a while.

So by 'skipping' do you mean the tread actually drags intermittently ? Is that because the rotation of the wheels is not sync'd ?

it's the tyre compound, and I would guess to a lesser extent the tread pattern. It's like using an old pencil rubber or try putting one in the freezer for an hour and see if it behaves the same way as normal. The compound hardens and becomes less flexible.
