Many thanks to all who have replied to my email about dealers.

I guess my next question (so I don't look an idiot at the dealership) is - are discounts available on new Tamoras? I have already been told that there would be room for negotiation on a used car at The TVR Centre in Barnet - but would the same be true on a new car?

Perhaps you could also indicate what sort of discount I could expect.

I haven't bought a new TVR for a few years now but when I bought my Griffith there was 0% discount available! I managed to negotiate a few extras f.o.c. like stereo upgrade and extra speakers but that was it. Bear in mind that TVRs are built to order and there is a waiting list, so why should the dealer offer a discount? If you can think of a good reason try it on him, but I expect the answer will be no. Better off trying for f.o.c. upgrades, extra year's warrenty, f.o.c. 6,000 service etc. Rich...

I think you'll be lucky personally.

Going 6000 mile service for free is probably your best route...

There is always room for negotiation on used cars as the dealer is setting the price. However the profit margin on new cars is ,I believe, very low and the dealer has little to play with.

It's been a couple of years since I worked for a TVR dealer but there was always a healthy margin in them.

Can't comment on low volume cars like TVR's, but major manufacturer mark-ups vary from vehicle to vehicle - so the L might have a different margin to the GL for example...

Of course there's room for negotiation - there always is!
It depends how good a negotiator you are!

It's the salesmans job to SELL (and at the best price - for HIM)

Your job is to 'Screw him to the floor' for the best deal for YOU!

I notice you've never bought a new TVR Garry. As has been said, there is room for something to sweeten the deal but it's unrealistic to suggest that the buyer will get much of a discount, because they won't. R...

It depends on how much of a discount you think is reasonable though. Some dealers may be more willing than others to come to some arrangement, plus it will also depend on how keen they are to sell a car.

If you don't ask you don't get...

Back when I was looking at getting a new TVR I was told by the owner of Henley Heritige that "there is no discount on TVR's but there is room for deals on other things such as servicing etc."

The only way you'll get a discount on a new car is if it's one of the dealer's stock cars, ie. one they've specced and effectively bought themselves.

If you're speccing it yourself you will not get a discount by like others have said go for the items 'thrown in'.

Why not be brave and ask....better to have tried and failed, than never to have tried at all!!

Besides, it is winter, and new T350s are in vogue, as are the Sagaris etc..........

Yes you can get a discount - i got a tamora in november 2002 list price of £39,500 for £34,900 - although i didnt get to spec the car myself. Luckily though it was pretty much the spec i wanted in the colour i wanted. I found it via a small advert in the sunday times placed by the dealership. They then gave me a trade in on my chimera at a value higher than i could have sold it privately. Be patient and shop around - it only took me about 4 weeks to find once i decided the tamora was for me.

I have been trying to get some discount for a Tamora from dealers with some options -

List price from dealer, 41k

The best offer for cash, 39k

Buying from a dealer through www.autoebid.com - 37.5k (This is a delivered price and includes Autobid's fee of £337!)

Think I will be discussing the price with my dealer again....

If that was the dealer im thinking off which is now under new ownership. They fell out big style with tvr and advertised all the cars they had in stock at dealer buy price ( or so they said) in the Times...

There were some very good deals from them for a time.
