Aircon Again...
Discussion
Just been trawling through all the old posts regarding T350 air con as I'm starting to wonder if I have a problem with mine. Well, I know there's a problem with it as it behaves in the most bizarre way compared to other cars I've owned. Just wondering if "they all do that".
Basically, no cold air whatsoever comes out of the dash-top vents and similarly, no warm air comes out of the lower vents (the ones just below the height of the stereo). So, with the air con temp control set to max (hot) you get a blast of volcanic heat from the windscreen and nothing from anywhere else. Then setting the temp control to minimum (cold) cuts off the air from the dash vents and blasts out cold air from the lower vents only. Nothing actually affects the temperature of the air coming out of any of the vents.
I noted this when the car went in for the 1k service but was told that TVR themselves said that there is nothing that can be done about it.
Also notice that the fan speed seems to have no or little effect on the amount of air coming from the lower vents. So even with the fan speed set to minimum you still get quite a blast of cold.
Saw several posts about some Flap Zero setting but I couldn't quite work out what it was supposed to change (if you changed it).

neil spoke to the factory regarding air con as i've given up with my dealer,i have hot air only from dash vents and footwell vents and air con from the middle vents. They have told me i should only have hot from the dash vents and air con from the others,it is booked in with them after xmas.
Hmmmm, I never even realised there were 3 sets of vents...doh!
I'll check mine to see if i'm getting cold from the lower....after first checking if I actually have lower vents...
So as far as the operation goes...that's it? Two grand for that?
(Oh don't mind me, I'm laid up in bed with the flu, what else is there to do but moan )

James here:
Right I'll try once and for all to clear this up!!
The top windscreen vents and footwell side vents ONLY provide hot air. The middle dash vents and the single passenger vent under the dash ONLY provide unheated or if turned on airconed air.
The temp control regulates the airflow between both sets of vents. ie; full hot=no dash vent air and hot air in footwells and windscreen. full cold=no windscreen and footwell air and cold air from dash.
Basically the mixing of air is carried out in the cabin not prior to the air leaving the vents.
While not traditional I actually quite like it as you generaly don't want hot air blown straight in your face. It demists quite well and is good in the summer with cold air.
The only pitfalls it has is no airconned air to the footwells in summer and when on cold you need to be carefull where the drivers dash vent is aimed or you freeze your hand.
Overall though I quite like it apart from the above points.
Rob..If your vents are giving warm air at the windscreen when it is set as cold your flap needs checking.
Go into the setup menu and factory settings and you will find a setting for flap which should be about 17. This is the number of steps the servo attached to the flap does when the car dash is reset ie at startup. This finds the zero sealed positio of teh flap, if the setting is too low or your flap positioned funny it won't seal and the system will use the wrong settings.
Check it is set to 17 if not change it. If that isn't the case have an experiment and you should find at lower numbers the windscreen vents will always allow air through no matter what the setting so increase it till they stop.
Hope that all makes sense any queries pelase yell. I'm off to open some bubbly now....on hols tommorrow
