Short trips or lay it up
Discussion
My drive to work is only about 5 miles, but at the moment the Tamora is my only car. Obviously the engine's barely warm by the time I get to work. I was wondering whether it was more detrimental to the car to make these repeated short trips or to leave it sat and only take it for the longer runs.
To be honest I even use it if I'm just popping down to the local shop. What the hell, if you've got a car like that what's the point in not driving it.

I guess there is that, except working in MIlton Keynes doesn't really make for a scenic trip anywhere, particularly once the traffic builds up at the roundabouts. And then you only get upset by the imbiciles who think their car only works in the outside lane or our imigrant friends who got their licence en masse thanks to our Mr Blunkett but are actually stupified by the concept of roundabout lane control.
Short trips where the engine doesn't get warm are supposed to increase engine wear and decrease component life. Maybe worthwhile investing in a Kenlowe pre-heater (if you have a garage or car port, and can run an electric cable to the car).
I think they're about £150, and can be found here

The pre-heater looks a good idea nubbin. Do you know of anyone that has actually invested in one. I presume it heats the water from the radiator ... anyway I've emailed them asking for prices. It looks pretty easy to fit and the idea of just whipping the cover off and driving away in a nice warm car midwinter appeals hugely.
I don't know of anyone who has one, but they are so simple an idea, and I am considering one for my fiancee's Bravo - she can't put it in the garage 'cos my TVR and Audi are in there already!
I am thinking about one for my Tamora, ready for those crisp Winter days when the roof has to be off, but you have to freeze your bollocks off for the first 10 miles
Let me know what they send you, will you?
