Dealer just rang, says they've got an invoice from TVR for my car (which I don't have yet, but its close), asking me to cough up the rest of the cash?

Huh? WTF? I've not even SEEN it yet and they want me to pay for it? Dealer says they won't let him have the car until the invoice is paid....

What gives people? Is this normal?

I'd tell them to br off... you're not their bank afterall, and they will be getting commission on the sale too.

I don't believe that this is normal. Needing to pay when you pick it up is fine but before?.

Ask them why exactly it is that they don't want you to see it before you pay for it...

and then check - is it the end of the month? Quarter? What reason do they want you to pay early.

If they are doing this for their own financial systems benefit then I think you would be within your rights to ask for a discount if you pay early...

Clearly if TVR are refusing to deliver the car to them without prior payment then they are doing this for their cash flow. If they can't wear the cost of a car for two days then they're hardly much of a dealer, are they.

I think I'd be a bit bolshy about this frankly. I don't mean rude. I mean - I'd ask for a full explanation as to why they want your money early. If the car is already with them...why not ask if you can go and see it...and pay them at the same time - even if you do pick it up a few days later after the PDI.

Car is still at TVR. Only reason given was that TVR won't let the dealer take the car away until its paid for....that's it....

So it's the dealership asking for the money ? Or TVR themselves ?
If it's the former be extremely careful. Failing dealerships have been known to try this in order to prop up their cashflow for a few more weeks. If the dealership goes bust you end up in deep $hit. Ask me how I know

Tell 'em to sling their hook, this is most unusual.

There could be all manner of reasons for rejection when you first see it...

Yep, the dealer is asking for the money. Not been contacted by TVR (and they are closed down this week....coincidence?) so the "TVR won't release the car until its paid for" is coming from the dealer....

I'm getting a bit nervous....

Call TVR direct and get the story from them.

If you have no comfort factor move the order so it gets PDI'd at another dealer...

Pay for the car on collection if and when you are happy with it. NOT before.
Sounds a bit dodgy if you ask me.
I'd ring the factory and ask them what's going on. Maybe the factory doesn’t trust the dealer to pass the money on.
Sounds like some bad blood along the Line..............
All IMHO

I dont see why not, I've done it myself but not with a TVR admittedly.

Call them and see what they say, I am sure they would themselves be interested in the circumstances of one of their representatives giving them a bad name.

Would definitely recommend taking it to another dealer if the TVR factory will let you.

That way you will have an established relationship with a dealer (that is still in business) to pick up the 1000 mile service and help with any niggles that you may get in the first few months and the renaining period of the warranty.

tell them to sling there hook, I would expect them to insist on cleared funds but that is usually before you collect the car and when you have inspected it yourself., not before its even been delivered to the dealer.
I would quite simply walk away if they said that to me.
