mng all,
seem to have picked up a gremlin in the past couple of days.....when starting the engine from cold everything happens as it should ....but then the engine seems to idle at 4-5k revs and then stalls!!..seems to be fine after i've got it moving but just a little worrying....anyone else experieced this??

My tamora had this (i assume you mean idle at 4-5 hundred not thousand revs!?). The S6 seems to struggle in the cold - especially if its been left outside overnight in the winter months. I got my dealer to turn the tickover speed up which solved the problem. Means it idles a little high at 1,000 when warm but at least it keeps going when cold!
The Sp6 engine doesn't have a proper cold running and idle routine it mearly changes the timing to try to adjust the idle. This is slightly rudimentary and the result is low idles and stalling in the cold. Once a bit of heat is in it it is fine. It is made worse if the engine is slightly out of tune. Manualy ajusting the idle screw on the throttle will help but I can'nt be bothered and just keep a few revs on it to start with.
Hope that helps

My experience with the Speed 6 is exactly the same. After it's just been serviced it runs perfectly. After a while the tuning will go off a bit, and on a cold day you either need a little throttle to make sure it starts, or at least after it's started, 1500 for 10-20 seconds. Seems to work fine after that!
Cheers,
Andy.

Chaps, my Tamora's been the same for as long as I've had it. All it needs is to be driven for 100 yards then it'll idle fine without cutting out.
It's a bit of a pain when I have to do a bit of manoeuvering when I first move the car!
My dealer originally altered the idling revs to between 950-100rpm.
Now that I use TVR Power they've lowered it back to 750 which is still 100 more than the factory set them to.
They did give a reason why the idle revs should not be raised too much but can't remember what it was?
Cheers..... Andrew

I've had the same trouble with my T.
Stalled it after backing out of the garage (on tickover)and then couldn't get it started again.
This has happened twice now, the engine turns but will not fire.
If I leave it for 5 mins or so and then try again it's fine ?
Going for service on 20th I will mention it to them.

... mines the same. In the hot summer idling at 5-600 rev's didn't present a problem and was encouraged by the dealer to prevent the engine getting too hot. Now colder etc its a bit of a struggle in the mornings.
Is adjusting the idle speed a visit to the dealer or a a 2 min job with a screw driver. If the latter can you tell me what to do/look for ???
I AM NOT A MECHANIC so warn me off if anything more that hammer, pliers or screwdriver required

8mm spanner and 3(?)mm alan key.... so take it to your dealer!
It's too difficult to explain but quite easy to do. It involves loosening the 8mm nut and turning the alan/hex screw, but there are lots of them and you could mess it up totally if you get the wrong one, so when you're next at the dealer ask to see the mechanic and make him show you which one and how.
