Went to start the T350C this morning, turned the key, the speedo and tacho pointers did the normal sweep, the dash lights did their normal flash, the dash beeped three times, and then there was absolute silence - no fuel pump running even the wee cooling fan for the dash didn't come on. However, the car did start and seems to be running OK ???????

Tried again a few times as a I thought I was having a sporadic attack of deafness, exactly the same again !!

Spoke to the dealer as a wee bit concerned that the beast was going to die on me - they have never heard of this before and appear to be baffled..... There is apparently an interlock that will not allow the engine to fire if the fuel pressure is low ??

Took the car for a run, no problems, stooped the engine and restarted again once I arrived back home - hey presto, all the "normal" sounds have re-appearred.

Has any one experienced this before ??

I don't think so. I'm sure Fish would have said if it had.

The fuel pump must have been energised for the car to run. It only buzzes as it primes and then stops until the car 'cranks'. I think that what has happened is that you have 'beaten' the dash display. I can get this to happen if I switch on and start quite quickly. I get the shift lights sequencing and the needles to sweep but when the car starts running I have no readouts and the beeper goes. If you switch off and leave a short delay between getting the ignition on and starting the car then everything is back to normal. Nothing to worry too much about I think.

Not sure if this is exactly the same but my Tamora has an intermittent dash problem on startup.
Sometimes the needles do their sweep but the change-up lights don't flash or beep and the digital display doesn't come on. The engine will start at this point. Turning the ingition off/on seems to sort it out.
This is why I now always turn the ignition on and then pause to make sure it's OK before starting the engine.
The guys at the factory service dept. have looked at it a couple of times and now call it a 'known bug with no fix yet'!
Cheers..... Andrew

Might be the immobiliser cutting out - you only get a few seconds after unlocking the car.

When this happens, try turning the ignition to the I setting and pressing the immobiliser button in the key, then fire it up again.

Fish speaking:

The little little flashing and beeping the dsah goes through before start up is a selftest routine for the electronics.

If you reduce the current by starting the car while it is still going through the routine you can crash the test due the the power drop on the starter demand.

Nothing to worry about it resets itself everytime you start the car. If it does crash turn it off and restart thus resetting the electronics. Only worry if it were to repeatedly do the same fault when you are not starting. It would probebly still start anyway.

I've crashed mine twice I think in 9500miles including alot of quick starts.

Hope that helps...

There is obviously a little glitch or gremlin in the software for the dash. My old Tamora used to do this, and drove normally but with no readouts on the dash, and the gear change lights flashed intermittently. It always corrected itself by switching off, then on again. It's a mystery, but, in those immortal words, "They all do that, sir!"
