I'm sure this has been done before but here goes.

I have a full wear and tear Gold warranty that is due for renewal in April. They have offered me a renewal with a Premier Plus warranty (the same thing apparently) for roughly a £1k. Is it worth it? has anyone made a claim?

The car is also in the classifieds as I am looking to get a Saggy, will it matter if I don't have one, will I get my £1k back on the selling price?

Decisions decisions and I hate spending money biggrin

I've just renewed for 12 months with Motorplan under their Premier/Exec scheme. £1k per claim limit for £250 premium. They have given excellent service throughout 2007

Hi, I purchased the AutoProtect wear and tear one as part of the T350 purchase in August last year. It cost £1,600 and after buying it looked at the document which stated I was responsible for the first £250.00 which is a pain as so far I need a new speedo sender (£150) and a probable shock (£150). Shame as I thought I was buying a warranty that covered everyting for a year. Is the £1000 a special deal direct from AutoProtect?

Thanks Guys

Yes the deal is directly through Auto Protect and to be honest I am tempted to service the car 1000 miles early before the warranty expires and walk away. The warranty covers up to £2k of work. If your both right and I have to pay to make a claim then it seems fairly pointless ie a clutch is £500 fitted if I only do that in a year then essentially it would cost me £1250 and I'm guessing a rebuild would not be covered anyway.

No, I don't have any excess with Motorplan £250 is the annual premium. Not wear and tear, but it DID cover a number of things last year - damper included! Plus I figure a £1k per claim limit will cover 5/6 of a clutch renewal if/when it happens.

I bought a warranty from a company called Click 2 (Dodgy sounding name I know). I did quite a bit of research before I bought. The cover cost about £500 and they cover me for anything that breaks up to the value of the car, no excess. I thought this would be too good to be true but I have claimed for a oil temp sender and water temp sender and they have paid up both times without any fuss. They also pay up to £90 per hour labour which is much higher than most. I am getting a new starter motor on wednesday so will see if they are just as fuss free while paying up for this!

I had a full one yr Autoprotect waranty for 06/07 on which I made claims over £1k - no problems generally at all on this and all repairs undertaken. I have since renewed it for a further 2 yrs (purchased all in one go at an eye-watering £2.7k), which should cover me to Aug 09. I have spoken to Racing Green who I purchased it through, given some concerns I had on vague paperwork/terms and conditions, and they have assured me that AP have generally been quite reasonable in paying out for valid claims. Fingers crossed this remains so.

RE AUTO PROTECT WARRANTY I HAVE ONE ITS NOT WORTH THE PAPER IT IS WRITTEN ON TRYING TO CLAIM AFTER A HOLED PISTON ON A MERC 416 SPRINTER VAN EVERY EXCUSE IN THE BOOK. I WAS TOLD IT WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY INJECTOR AND INJECTORS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY HOWEVER HAD ALL INJECTORS CHECKED BY FEATHER DIESEL SERVICES ALL FINE WITH IDENTICAL SPRAY PATTEN AND OUTPUT. THEN TOLD OVERHEATING ON ONE PISTON NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY BUT THEY CAN NOT EXPLAIN IT AND THEY STILL WONT PAY OUT. PEACE OF MIND FORGET IT!

i had the autoprotect Gold warranty on my perfectly (main dealer) maintained and warmed up correctly 2004 T350t....when the engine had to be rebuilt at just 22k they didnt even bother turning up to inspect the engine and they wouldnt pay a penny towards the rebuild saying it was a well known TVR design/quality issue that had caused the problem (the usual valve recession problem)....AP are a total waste of money from my experience

This is by no means an isolated incident.

For legal reasons I don't want to elaborate too much, but suffice to say I have experience of AutoProtect claiming that an engine blowing up is neither wear & tear nor mechanical failure.

Work that one out!

My experience with this warranty has been good, but I think it also depends on your dealer. I went to one dealer and needed some bushes, dealer said warranty would never cover it, they'd tried before etc. Took it to my fave dealer and they said no problem, did it under warranty. They also paid for a full clutch. I didn't renew this year as my mileage is much lower and the car has only had one problem in 6 months - engine mounts, a common problem which isn't expensive.

I think things like the radiator, steering rack & pump are some of the more expensive bits to get some kind of a warranty to cover. I now have the £99 AA warranty - will see if I need it.

@JonRB:
Sorry to bump this thread but I've tried contacting you about your AutoProtect issue, but I'm not sure you've got it. If you see this message could you drop me a line? I think we have a common enemy smile

I got the AP warranty via RG when I purchased the Sagaris and used them once to replace the clutch (wasn`t worn but wasn`t disengaging correctly) - they paid up about 80% of the cost to get it replaced..

Them seem to be OK for things other than engine related...

Oh, well that's ok then. rolleyeshehe

Incidentally, Racing Green no longer use or recommend AutoProtect. Which is a comment in itself.

I am a dealer and have used Autoprotect for a number of years with no problems whatsoever. When I supply a warranty with a vehicle I always say READ THE BOOKLET.
If you had a new vehicle under warranty with the manufacturer the the clutch started to slip you would not be covered. It is Mechanical Breadown and people please do not always understand what this means.
The best thing to do is look over the years at your motoring costs then see what would be covered under a warranty if you had had one - Probably not alot as most of the items will probably be wear and tear items.

I've never had a problem with my Auto Protect warranty.

When I had to claim they paid the garage straight away and aprroved the claim within the hour.

I think it depends on the garage and if you have a breakdown or a failure.

You must have been the lucky and had a failure that even they couldn't slither out of paying and approved the payment through gritted teeth.

I've done more than that. I have it read by someone with a law degree (although admittedly not a solicitor) and they concluded that AutoProtect have so many ways of getting out of paying in their T&C's that the warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on. And my experience bore this out.

I had an Auto Protect warranty, and can't say anymore due to the name and shame rules on this site.

Suffice to say I didn't renew smile
