Hi everyone, I am currently a Lotus Elise driver and I am looking at buying a TVR. After a few drives the Tamora appeals to me the most. A few questions:

1. IMO the drive with 18 alloys is much improved on 16 alloys (and so is the car's appearance). Would I need to declare 18 alloys as a mod to insurance companies ?
2. What is the feeling on air-con. I know it is supposed to help re-sale values but do you actually need it ? I love open top driving and my attitude is - the roof is on only when it is raining. Also with air con, isn't it something that you should always use otherwise it becomes unreliable ?
3. I've seen a couple in Rosso - lovely colour, but as TVR have dropped it should I be concerned re; repairs and touch ups ?

Thanks

can only really comment onthe first one, you do not need to declare the 18's to the insurance company,

but get out in one and see if it is what you really want, I'm sure you won't be dissappointed

1. No, they're a factory option not an upgrade.

2. No. I guess this could depend on where you live and if you're always sitting in traffic? I've never wished I had air con but have heard that someone in central London swearing by it.

3. TVR have not dropped Rosso Pearl. There's a few new T350Cs just out in Rosso Pearl.

Get one, you'll love it!

I always think air con is nice and if you can afford it then I'd say have it. I haven't got it on mine and the only time I'd like it (not need it though) is when stuck in slow moving traffic. On the move with the roof down it's never an issue.

I don't have aircon and don't feel the need for it when the roof is off. May need it if you were thinking of taking it touring abroad though. Gets very hot when sitting in traffic. I don't beleive it will hit residual value due to it being a soft top.

Important to get the right colour, IMHO reflex and pearl colours are the best and you should be able to pick one up with out paying too much over the odds

Good luck with your hunting
Cheers

I have just had air-con retro fitted in my Tamora and think its excellent and a must-have. I love open top driving but there are times (eg. rain!) when its just not possible and the Speed 6 engine does make the cabin very hot. As said above, it really depends on where you are, how often you use the car and how often you are likely to be sitting in traffic.

Go for the Tamora - its a fantastic car!

Tam Girl - can I be cheeky and ask how much (ballpark) it costs for a retro-fit?

Hi Jon - retro-fit air-con is the same cost as list price (£1930) but as I have had a huge number of problems with the car(!) the factory did it for me at a substantial discount. Drop me an email if you would like more details.

Steven,
Get one, you won't be disappointed.
I have got air-con on mine but don't use it that often. Without roof obviously no real need for it. With roof on and sitting in traffic, it can be useful as it does get hot but opening the windows (unless it's raining) has an OK cooling effect. Guess it depends on where you live and where you'll be driving it.
Colourwise, everyone has different opininons but I do remember seeing an ad for a rosso one a few weeks ago (I think it was at Henley TVR) and it looked very tasty.
Cheers,
Iain

Steven,

A bit late to thread but IMO aircon is a must have option and so is full leather.

I have my aircon on all the time and the system in the Tamora seems to work very well.

IMO full leather cars if cared for properly seem much less prone to wear.

I am almost a Tamora owner, put down the deposit on an ex-demo, reflex green with 18" alloys, hoping to pick up next weekend. I can't believe I am driving my elise in this glorious weather and looking forward to moving on...

Welcome a board Steven, you will enjoy every second of it.
Give us a full spec on your car, i.e interior, mileage etc, where are you getting it from and when do you pick it up. (Nubbin Hopefully it's not the one you have just looked at!!)

If Nubbin is successful there could be 4 of us in the club.
Bliming eck we shall be able to have our own convoy!!!!

Good luck with your car Steven and keep us informed, I am sure you won't be getting much sleep for a little while
Cheers

Thanks Glenn, I got a good deal from Hawthornes. Car is registered June 03, <50 miles, good px on my Elise and they are putting on 18" alloys which is incl in the agreed price. I was close to buying another car with air con but Hawthornes matched that price with the 18"s. I decided reflex green was more important than air con. Also I found the Hawthornes crowd very helpful and knowledgeable compared to others I met.

I hope to pick it up on Saturday.

Good decision, Steven - welcome to the club!

I also decided against air con on my Tamora - even the factory didn't recommend it as it's a convertible - it sounds essential on the T350, though.

With regard to colour, I thought you could pretty well have any colour you wanted, so I don't understand why they would have 'stopped' a colour.

Enjoy!
