Having read several threads on the topic of insurance thought I would post my own question.
I currently own two cars one of which is my Tamora, which I only use as a weekend car.
I have full no claims bonus on my other car (which I use to travel to and from work)and a limited mileage cover on the Tamora yet I still seem to be paying through the nose on both.
What options are open to reduce costs:
a) transfer registration of non TVR to wife and move my no claims bonus to the Tamora (with the thinking that woman are cheaper to insure, although her no claims was frozen some 4 years ago so may not have any now)
b) transfer no claims bonus to Tamora and insure both cars with same insurer (try to get discount for multi vehicle insurance)
c) ring round as many brokers as possible to try and get best rates.
d) sell them both and get a push bike!
currently pay approx 650.00 p.a. Merc C240 and 1200.00 p.a. Tamora (3000 Miles) this is with Heritage and from looking at resent post will make Mannings my 1st port of call.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Glenn

Glen,

Try speaking to Malcolm at Sunninghill, (I think this is his direct line - 01276 486002).

They will usually mirror any existing no-claims bonus, so that when you start a new policy on your 'second' car, you aren't building up your bonus again from scratch.

For info, the premium on my Tamora, fully comp for me and the wife was £599, incl track day cover.

I was faced with a similar problem! Try calling Mark Abbott @ Cheam Insurance Brokers on 0208 649 7617. Very helpful & efficient. Cheapest policy by far (Norwich Union)8k mileage & saved me money on my 330d BMW!

Glenn, I agree with Rob, try Sunninghill.
Also try Manning's but I found them more expensive.
Main difference in policies is that Manning's only cover TVRCC track days but Sunninghill cover all 'organised' track days.
Cheers.... Andrew

Glenn,

I also used Sunninghill for the Tamora as a second car. Introductory offer mirroring no claims, although not protected. Usual coverage, for me and the wife £620.

Help! I'm struggling to get close to these quotes. I need cover for a new T350C. I'm 54, live in a low risk area, car garaged, garage alarmed and linked to house, only want social and domestic cover, prepared to be limited to circa 8k miles, want track day cover, full NCB. A Manning have quoted £820 but no cover for partner whilst Sunninghill could not get me a quote as I have (only) had Alfa 166, Jag X-type 2.5, BMW 328's, 330's and 325's as company cars and have no 250bhp plus experience. What am I doing wrong?

Snakes,

My quote with Mannings (age 37, 7k per yr) was about the same as yours.

Am no expert on insurance but seemed from various threads that competitive quotes consistantly threw up the same 2-3 insurers (Manning, Sunninghill and Cheam) and the quote I guess depends on how they weight your various demographic, area and driving history details

For my T350C Sunninghill wanted a Tracker fitted, Manning didn't and so the choice was made until.

This quote also compares well to a similar value 993 I insured a year or two back.

P.S Picked my T350 up today, it really is rather good!!!

Try Direct Line as well. My Tamora is £589 with Full NCB. I know a lot of people don't say good things about them but in my experience they are the most efficient insurance company I have dealt with.

Best quote today was £790 with Norwich Union through Cheam Insurance Brokers. £250 excess, unlimited mileage, fully comp, includes partner, track days @ £50 with excess rising to £1,250. Sounds OK but will try Direct Line and let you all know!

Thanks folks.

Every year i get a quote from Norwich Union Direct on the advice of my broker, which i then give to him so that Norwich Union can match it. apparantly Norwich Union have to match Norwich Union Direct quotes through brokers. Worth a try, could save you a few hundred quid for a phone call. Don't tell NU Direct your intention however!
