SEAT BELT COWLINGS
Discussion
Anyone out there had the new seat belt (as seen on new Tamoras and T350's) cowlings done "under warranty". My dealer has been told by the factory that this is not covered. Admittedly after going out with the top down at the weekend I didn't appear to have any locking issues but had no passenger with me to test. (sad I know but have got no friends!)
Not overly worried if not as I think the new cowlings look much better and are worth upgrading from the cheap plastic which is attached now but am interested in what others have been told.

Yep, mine were also done FOC at the last service. Insist on it - TVR recognise it as a safety issue, and will do it. What is your dealer playing at? Also, make sure you get kick plates - they are also FOC, but they didn't do mine, and if you haven't got it, pay for the alloy handbrake surround. definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

Glenn,
From what I can tell, its done FOC in kindess, as a way of compensating people who have had issues with their cars which are more than just niggles. I think the best approach is to hammer them from the safety aspect. The reason they are probably trying to charge is that they have to cover the cowling with leather/bison - although they must have plenty of offcuts which can be used. Also when the cowling is fitted they have to put an extra piece of carpet in the car and remove the covering currently next to the door, otherwise it won't fit. Would have been more sensible to design one for exisiting cars to make life easier.
Nubbin - If you don't mind me asking how much were you charged for the handbrake surround ? Mine understanding is that the centre console has to be heavily modified.

As alt has said, £150. They did a complete new centre section, but in fairness, it isn't really any different except a larger hole to put the alloy bit in. Looks like I got mine on the cheap, Andy! (But no kick plates!)
Lance said: guys the new seatbelt cowlings are available FOC. I know this because the DoT have asked the factory to retro-fit to all cars. In their view non-medded cars are unsafe. If any of you want more details probably best done OT

In which case and assuming 100% accurate either TVR themselves or the dealers are taking the p*ss out of owners and it SHOULD be reported.
Glenn - I will mail you offline as we should speak since we have the same dealer and differing circumstances with respect to this issue.

I am having the same problem. As I don't have a dealer at present (Scotland), Dreadnought are taking care of my warranty issues and have been told by the factory they cannot fit the new cowlings. They were also told that they are only being fitted to new cars, which we all know is untrue. I am getting a bit sick and tired of this discussion, particularly when it relates to a major safety issue, and the gloves are coming off. This is a factory issue as far as I can see and the dealers are fobbed off just the same as we are. There may be some merit in those of us with the same problem tackling this on a united front. I am going to contact Lance offline for a chat as a starter. Anyone else want to get involved, drop me an e-mail.
