Here is a worrying one re both depreciation and servicing costs...

...as its late, its been a hard week and my brain feels like mush I thought I would ask for some verification. I have just used my family car for a trip that I have used the Tamora for many times and have found that the odometer reading (which I use for expenses) is out by a whopping 13-14% (with the Tamora being on the HIGH side!!).

I thought that I would check theAA.com where you can plot a very exact route and found that my family car is in the ballpark (within 1-2 miles over circa 200 miles).

You can also do the math, but this means that a car reading 10000 miles has actually only covered 8811 miles (10000 / 1.135). Now if I have this right, I am one grumpy chap to be losing almost 1200 miles every 10000!! and the attendant acceleration of the servicing intervals and impact on depreciation!!

Perhaps someone else could track their mileage and compare with theAA.com and/or another car and tell me if they are experiencing the same rather major problem. I will understand if no one whose car is doing the opposite wants to come forward of course.

This is not a new phenomenon - alt found his to be over-reading by 8%. I have just got mine back from a factory service, and asked for the software to be upgraded, but was told there was no problem! I remain unconvinced, but I think I need a GPS system to measure actual mileagge, and go back to TVR with the results (any excuse to buy a new Geodesy GPS thingy!!)

Mine seems to over read as well, but by less than 5%, so I've not been too worried about it.

Perhaps they're deliberately set up like that to make you think the fuel economy is better than it really is.

I noticed mine early on as it was about 14% over!
The ECU went back to the factory where they fixed it and said that it was 8% over.
All I know is that it's spot on now.

What we need is a Tamora convoy where we can compare mileages at the end.
Suppose we'll have to invite a Porsche to act as the 'control'!

So assuming that the clock has over-read some miles do they wind the clock back when they sort it out or do these 'extra' miles get donated someplace?

I asked that when mine got fixed. Kings were pretty vague and said that mileage couldn't be wound back as it's against DOT rules.
I'm sure they ended up agreeing to it but must admit I forgot to read the exact mileage before the ECU was removed. At least I noticed early so it would only be about 120 miles out anyway.
Cheers.... Andrew

Yeah, I think its almost not worth the effort...

Let me see:

- spend 30 min debating the odo readout with the dealer
or
- spend 30 minutes driving the car on a twisty road?

Difficult choice?!

By my calcs, I am out circa 1500 miles - nice to know I am 2700 miles from my 12k service rather than 1200. I have now discussed with the dealer and will hope to have a resolution next week. I have the advantage of having quite a bit of evidence from expense claims over the past 10 months!
