Is it normal for the aluminium gearbox casing inside the car to get very hot so that you can bearly touch it on long journeys? Engine temp reading is however showing normal.

Depends what you mean by a long journey. Mine certainly gets warm but not too hot to touch after 2 hours.

Same here, warm but not too hot to touch.
Drove a Tuscan S on the track in September that was too hot to touch!
