Hi guys... I've just joined the Tamora club - On Saturday I bought a Rosso Pearl ex Demo from Kings TVR.

Apart from a smile not leaving my face and my heart not slowing down I have a little worry as I have never owned a speed 6 engine... (having come from a Chimaera)
Are they meant to be very shaky when idling? To an extent that something else (not sure what) is picking up the vibrations and I get almost like a knocking noise somewhere in between the dash and the engine?

Do I need to worry or not?

Can happen if the idle is a bit low. They are slightly shaky at idle but it should idle at approx 900rpm often they are set at 600-700 where they get noticably shakyer and are more prone to stalling in the cold. See the thread on tuscans? on idle re setting

It idles very poorly from cold, but should pick up after about 200yards, when a bit of oil has circulated from the oil reserve. I gat a slight, faint knocking noise at idle, even when warm. I don't know if it's anything to worry about, either, but I don't think so.

Congratulations by the way - great cars, aren't they?!!

Lovely looking car Dylan - I've been ogling it over the past few weeks and thinking "ummmm maybe", as I thought the price looked pretty reasonable.

Yeah, the price looked just a little too irresistable

Best TVR I've ever driven...Scared to take it past the 4500RPM!

Love it!!

Welcome to the club Dylan!

My engine can be very shaky when its cold as well...it doesn't really smooth out at idle until the oil temperature is at 60+.

I do find if I drive it hard it tends to feel much more settled the next time I drive it - although I don't recommend doing this in the wet down the A4 towards Chiswick roundabout like I did this morning. I revved it up in first gear and thought I must have been in neutral as the engine went straight up to 5000 revs at about 10mph. Is that what they call rampant wheelspin?

I love this car!!!

Mine also suffers from a very poor idle when cold, but is fine after a couple of minutes. There also appears to be some sort of knocking noise whilst it is warming up, but soon disappears when warm.
It was very concerning when I first had the car, but everyone seems to say the same, so presumme that they are all like this.
Fantastic car, have you any pics to post

Rosso Pearl, one of the best colours you can get. The Cerbera looks great in this though haven't yet seen a Tamora in the same colour, have you got the 18" Spyders on it or the standard 16's ?? If you get a chance a few pics of car would be great

Congrats

Hey guys.. thanks for the warm welcome...
I'll try and take some pics over the weekend and post...

By the way, I've worked out what the 'shake and rattle' is... Its the bonnet being loose and rattling away at idle... The bonnet 'catch' is actually not 'catching' at all! (i.e. you can just pull the bonnet up...
Any advice?

Cheers, Dylan

Congratulations Dylan, glad you're happy.
I drove this car back in January when Kings first got it.
You should have a good check over it and get Kings to sort all the little niggles out, eg. the bonnet catch. Obviously they should have done this already but it is Kings we're talking about!
Are you local to Kings?
Cheers..... Andrew

Yeah... I'm trying to arrange a visit as I'm typing this...

Unfortunately I live in London SE16 so its not really a local trip for me. On the other hand any excuse for a spin eh?
(I think i might have left my pen in the office... I better go and get it

Where are you guys based?

Dylan,

Make sure the handle for the bonnet release is pushed all the way in. When I open my bonnet, the handle does not always fully retract, thus when the bonnet is closed it does not 'grip' because there is still tension in the cable and therefore the catch is still in the 'open' position.
Hope this makes sense.

Cheers.

Thanks Jon,

Just tried pulling and pushing the cable a few times and its done the trick! Thanks!
The rattling noise has now halved... The other half seems to be coming from the gearbox someplace below the stick. With the car in neutral and idling it gives a slight rattle... With the clutch fully down it goes away? Its not very loud but you know what its like when you buy a new car - any noise starts irritating you.
Is this a 'normal' noise/ratle?

Cheers Dylan

Can't say I've noticed that. I'll try to remember and have a listen at the weekend (I use the bus for work).
I second what everyones else has said though, the engine does rattle and generally sound unhappy until it's warmed up (I've had to have the idle rate adjusted a couple of times).
You may also notice a noise like a sewing machine, more noticeable with the roof off, this is normal - the tappets apparently (if I remember rightly).

Cheers.

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She looks a beauty. Hope you have many days of fun in her. Picking mine up from the coachworks after having the bum re-done, after the toe rag on his moped used me as a break! Lets hope hope it's dry today.

Cheers Dicky...

Hope yours comes back as good as it was before the moped stupidity...

Doesn't seem like there'll be any burbling today - thick fog and wet where I am! Visibility about 50m - not ideal for a 350bhp car...
Maybe tomorrow...
