I've got the rack out of the car and would like to remove the track rods..there's a slot for a large spanner on the track rod but nothing to hold the actual rack.

I'm assuming they are on pretty tight so would prefer not using a vice/vice grips to hold the rack.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You could bolt it back onto the chassis . Removing the track rods first makes it much easier to remove the rack . Failing that it will have to go in a vice .

If you have your vice correctly positioned on your bench ie with the rear jaw clear of the edge, you should be able to hold the steering rack hanging vertically, using aluminium jaw caps, on the flat toothed part of the rack bar nearest to the track rod you are working on. I find this preferable to exerting a twisting force through the length of the rack bar and into the pinion, as you would were it still installed.

There should be flats on the rack bar, there are on most racks

But from memory there are no flats on TVR racks, Doh!

For what it's worth, I have a spare Tcar rack that I don't need (it was sold to me as a Cerbera rack, but it has the longer 665mm rack bar H0740)

I thought it was suitable the Sagaris as well, but on checking it seems I'm wrong
