Started the car a few days ago and it was very lumpy. The diagnostics software showed TPS 123 at 15% at tickover but TPS 456 was at 55%!
Resetting the TPS and adaptives has restored the car to it's gloriously insane self, but obviously has left a nagging question as to why it happened.
Is this a sign of potential TPS failure?

Morning!
I experienced similar - - but on the front TPS. I too reset the throttles and then adaptives via the software (and smooth running returned). Also had the nagging worry that the potentiometers were failing.

Later, I removed both TPS used contact spray on the plugs, tried to get some spray into the body/behind the rotating element as well. I re-assembled the pots with a smear of vaseline on the mating surfaces....and so far all good.
I put the 'odd' reading down to, maybe, some damp ingress into the pot(s) and/or electrical connections?

So far, 3 months down the line, I haven't had any further weird indications on the diagnostics.

Morning Nick!
Did you re-reset the TPS and adaptives after cleaning and reassembly? If there was a bad connection then you would hope that cleaning should have put it back to the original value, which would mean the reset values would now be wrong!

How do you even get to the back TPS? Do you have to take the throttle bodies off? !

cheers

Maybe the Dallas1230 Chip in the ECU is near to its end...so replace it. Normal life time is 10 Years, so you are way above this...

Thanks Olli
Already done! I had intermittent start issues at the end of last year and changing the NVRAM appeared to have solved that. It looked like it was very occasionally loading incorrect adaptives. Cycling the power invariably corrected the problem. This issue is different in that the 55% TPS reading was persistently there, cycling the power had no effect.
I haven't had a chance yet to run the car enough to see whether resetting the TPS and adaptives is a reliable fix.

Yep, the rear TPS is a bh! You get a bit more light and 'room' with the scuttle panel removed. I've used a 1/4" drive fitted with a flat screwdriver bit (this gives a 90deg change of effort direction!). The electrical connection you can do by 'feel'.

It's a T350, no scuttle panel!
For now I'm going to leave it and see what happens. I'm encouraged that yours is behaving itself.
I was planning on getting the throttle spindle bearing mod done later in the year so hopefully it can wait until then.
