Evening all. I picked up a lovely Tamora last Friday. I’ve only had chance to get out for a couple of short drives since then - mainly to check on the temperatures, oil pressure, cooling fans etc etc. Everything looks to be performing exactly as it should so far- I’m very happy with the car.

It benefits from a comprehensive service folder, with loads of scary big bills inside!

I’m after some advice on servicing. The current mileage is 54000. The last service (a 6k service at Central TVR) was done at 53060 miles. But here’s my slight issue - that was completed way back on 23/04/2018.

Recent history.
TVR Power : 43710 miles on 15/10/14. Full rebuild.
Mat Smith : 48472 miles on 16/11/16. 6k service.
Str8six. : 50835 miles on. 28/09/17 12k service.
Central TVR: 53060 miles on 23/04/18 6k service.

So here’s the question, should I be getting the car serviced now? 6k? 12k? Obviously it’s done very few miles, but we’re looking at nearly three years since an oil change etc. (the oil on the dipstick is super clean and spot on to top level)

Well the good news is that the last 4 services and rebuild couldn't have been done by a better selection of dealers. My Sagaris is serviced by Mat Smith.

For the sake of a couple of hundred quid I would have a 12k plus tappets done as it will be 3 years since the last service soon. With the recent rebuild by Power and a thorough service I think you could then enjoy the car without much worry for the summer.

My Sag is coming up 3 years since its last 12k plus tappets (and it missed last years service for pretty obvious reasons) but has only done 2000 miles in that time but still I think I will have Mat do a full service this time just for piece of mind. I tend do the following order 6k low mileage service, 6k service, 12k with tappets and repeat

Oh and you do know its dry sump right? So oil temps up to 60, then engine off and quickly dip the oil.

At only 3,000 miles since a major 12K service and less than 1,000 miles since a 6K service then I would just go for a low mileage oil change if I were you.

Did you buy it from a dealer or private? If you got it from a reputable TVR dealer then I would expect that they would have given it a full safety inspection.

I’m a van dealer by trade, the Tamora popped up on a dealer groups online trade auction sites. ( apparently the TVR was traded in for a BMW M2)
I’d been looking for a Chim for some time, i recently bid on a couple in classic car auctions without success.
When I first saw this Tamora I dismissed it as a potential nightmare and probably too expensive. But I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So, I did some detective work and managed to track down the previous owner via a Facebook TVR group. He kindly gave me some info regarding the cars history and current state - enough to give me the confidence to bid on it.

P.S The car passed an MOT today with no advisories.

Servicing is 6000 miles or 12 months which ever is sooner. I would have it serviced soon as you can for peace of mind.

Worth a chat with Power to see if warranty is void or intact as it missed a service after the re-build.

Since you live in Lancashire, I would suggest you book it in with X-Works in Kirkham for a full service and check over. Heath & Paul will find anything that needs doing. Although I think they're full booked upto May now.

Isn't the warranty only for 3 years (but unlimited mileage)

I’ve heard nothing but good things about X-works. I’ll definitely be using their services for this car. I was having a little poke around the engine bay. I noticed two unplugged electrical connectors running along the top of the engine on top of the throttle bodies. They’re labelled knock sensor front and knock sensor rear. I’m presuming the loom was built to cover more than one car/engine combo?

Loom is/was TVR specific. Having said that at some point in the Speed6's history, I guess that a later 'iteration' of the MBE ECU would come about allowing for knock detection.
I believe the latest ECU (from Powers Performance/Str8Six - but still made by MBE) has a knock detection capability...thus better control of spark timing, thus improved power.

That’s the one. It’s a beauty. When did you own it?

I sold it to the previous owner.

I was the one who serviced it at Mat Smith and Straight Six

I also drove it to Berlin and back (only drove it back because I got a buyer for it)

It's very well sorted now. You got a cracking car. Does it come with the roof? The original roof blew off when I drove slightly too quickly so I bought a surrey roof

It does still have the Surrey roof. I didn’t realise that wasn’t the standard roof when I bought it. It’s a nice simple design, I like it.

The car will be getting taxed today. I’m hoping have a good long drive or two this weekend to get acquainted with it.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Just be sensible with the right foot on damp roads, and get Heath to cast an eye over the full four wheel alignment - TVRs seem to be sensitive to misaligned wheels but really good to drive with them well aligned.

Give my regards to Southport - my wife, step-daughter and son-in-law were long term residents until they saw sense and joined me somewhere warmer and dryer.
