Service History
Discussion
A question I probably know the answer to....
I'm considering a Tamora, the one I have in mind has a bit of a mixed service history, first half is spot on, last half less so, been mostly every other year, one instance of 8.5k and 2 years, another 3.5k but 3 years and a recent service at a non descript garage, it now done 38k.
The car would undergo a thorough prep before purchase but am I a) asking for trouble and b) buying a car that would be a nightmare to sell in the future?
Opinions would be appreciated.

Ok, one would prefer a regular service. I, for example, give my car away once a year. However, I drive only about 4-5000 km.
But what is more important is that the car has now been properly checked. Yes, there are things that may have been overlooked over the years and led to wear. But you can't really avoid that anyway.
If the car is now at a workshop that sees through well and properly, I actually see no problems.

Would want a full service with valve clearances done, fluids and fuel pipes replaced before collection. Car should be serviced every six thousand miles or every 12 months which ever comes first. Depends how it’s been used as to how problematic it may be.
Any chance of contacting previous owner?

Thanks for the replies folks, the car I'm considering is through a dealer I have dealt with a number of times in the last 20 years when previously owning TVRs.
They are currently going through the car and I've had a number of photos so I can see what work is being done but it will be at least a 12k service with tappet check.
With regards contacting previous owner this may be possible but I'm told he's 88 and hardly used the car in the last 2 years.
I guess I'll get a better idea when I am able to stand in front of the car.
I've always had V8s so the leap to a Speed 6 is into the total unknown so your feedback is appreciated.

Hi, I'm not a TVR owner, but certainly based on your last post and once you've stood in front of it and can see and feel all is well, then I'd go for it.
The service history, whilst not perfect can be somewhat restored if you keep it a few years, and so selling it on shouldn't be any more of a hassle than normal.
Sometimes too much emphasis is put into stamps in a service book, invoices and receipts for other work are equally as important and maybe more so.
You'll be getting some sort of warranty too I'd imagine.
Enjoy.
