Tamora starter cable
Discussion
Does anyone know the length of the main red cable from the battery to the starter and what the rating of the cable is and what fitting is at the starter end?
Replacing mine (06 plate Tam) but would like to get the replacement in before taking all the bottom plates off etc. and just do it all at once. Looks something like 300amp cable.
Do any of the parts places sell the cable pre-made? I couldn't see any on TVR Parts, Powers or Racetech Direct (but they've all got pretty useless search functions online).
Thanks.

Sorry don't know the length, ordering a chosen length could leave things too tight and going over too much slack to lose
Yes 300 Amp will get you a result but higher rated cable is better, there won't be any volt-drop problems when cranking if you use 50mm², 345A, cable OD 13.3mm
This below cable has tinned conductors which helps prevent corrosion, might be worth buying 10 meters and selling on what you don't use

Starter terminal should be M8

Best option is to arrange a day when you can remove the cable visit a workshop and get one made while waiting, doesn't take long, any good auto electrician will have the cable and terminals
Whatever you do decide to do, make sure that the starter end terminal is insulated and sealed with adhesive type heat-shrink

Next time I have a need to take the starter out I was pondering changing the path the battery to starter cable took as its appears a tad long. I wondered whether it would have bee better from starter back to the bulkhead and then up and across over the cylinderhead then down to the battery though this would need the cable routing past the exhaust manifolds /Cats checked to ensure risk of baking melting the cable and then routing the man battery current to earth was avoided .... :O

Fred - I think the original routing was given some thought by the TVR folks. OK, running to the front transverse square section and then back on the O/S to the starter does seem tortuous, but running the cable across and above the cats/exhaust is a recipe for disaster IMHO.Nick
