I have a great time with my Elise, but she was to slow :-) now its time to buy TVR. But i dont know what to buy? i have £20-30,000 to spend, and i want something less than one year old. Its has to be fast and a 2 seater, the problems is i live in Sweden and we dont a have dealer here. So my big question are TVR reliable? and whats the servicing cost like (ball park)

Two things to consider:

1) Availability, I doubt you will find a second-hand Tamora at this time.

2) Servicing, the TVR own engines are 'specialist' engines IMHO. I would recommend a Chimaera with the Rover V8 engine, much easier (and cheaper) to maintain.

Bob, there are 2 Tamoras for sale in the Pistonheads classifieds. Also there's a couple for sale at in Autocar magazine which look to be ex dealer demo cars.
I agree with Kevin's second point though about the trouble you may have maintaining the car from Sweden?
Cheers.... Andrew

What happened in the end? Tamora, Chimaera or something else?

have you got me mavis' number yet BTW?

They are reliable if you put the m into context. They are a small company with little in the way of QC and making handbuilt cars.

This is against your old car using a Rover lump and very little else - even if head gaskets are known to go on the 1.8 K-series...

It may have a few niggles, but the SP6 engine appears to be sorted now, and if you accept it for what it is, and the performance it will deliver for the price, you wont be dissapointed.

If a few gremlins will bug you and you want 100% reliablity, you may be best off looking elsewhere.

Reliable how?

To make you grin every time you drive it? Yes 100%
To remind you of how much fun driving can be? 100%
To turn heads....at 500 yards? Yup, 100%
To look like a supermodel on wheels? 100%
For making other drivers drool? 100%
For giving you a dizzying dose of power under you right boot? 100%

Any other questions?

Good answer to his reliability question but I've only just noticed it was originally posted end of 2002! Doh! Guess he probably bought one or not as the case may be by now

oops, guess that means he bought an SP6 before it was sorted then
