Hi all,

The Graham Varley manual seems to be the only workshop manual available, yet no new print runs and no on-line copies available. Given we are a relatively small community and as the cars age, the experience in the club/forum/suppliers will be harder to access - can an owner of the manual not scan and make it available? I have emailed Varley but have not yet received a response, although I understand previous request to access the manual digitally have been declined.

I haven't seen it to know whether its subject to copyright but if not - it'd be such a valuable asset.

Feel free to PM me if you'd rather discuss in private.

I can confirm that it is subject to copyright. The best thing to do is keep an eye on eBay as they come up fairly regularly, and although not cheap, at least they hold their value.

I let Graham know about this back in Feb this year - his publication is copyrighted and unless the German car club has permission, they are breaking copyright rules. Graham's response to my email to him was "Poor show, and I will endeavour to resolve it".
Oh and the chapters are only accessible by password which I guess you get once you've joined the club.

You haven’t exactly helped the many owners in need of a manual, unless of course his resolving it means he’s doing a reprint?

Sorry but it's not up to me - Graham is the copyright owner / holder and it's his manual / info he put together. You could always message him via PH and ask him about more print runs etc?

Oh and my copy (pristine, never used in anger and no marks etc) WILL be up for sale at some point in the not too distant future, as will my Tuscan. Whilst the phrase "I'm alright Jack" springs to mind, I'll do my bit (selling my copy on) to help the TVR community.

That criticism is inappropriate, and irrelevant in the context of copyright law. Publishing parts of Graham's manual without his permission is just as illegal as buying a CD/DVD and making 10 pirate copies for your mates. The law forbids it, and for good reason.

My point was more about if he’s doing another print run or was asked. However if it’s available free on the German website (I haven’t checked) then I suggest you take it up with them!

It's not free, you need to be a member of the German TVR Car Club plus Graham had NOT given permission for it to be on there, so if anyone does register with the German Car Club to gain access to it, it's no different to buying a dodgy pirate CD / DVD copy from the bloke down the market...

It was Grahams' work and he has the right to do whatever he wants and people should keep their traps shut and be thankful for his efforts .

Any idea how many copies were printed? I bought one for £50 IIRC from the first run ahead of a car purchase.

I’d be quite happy if I’d created this manual only to see it in constant demand and appreciate more than the cars themselves.

Perhaps someone could ping graham and ask if he'd consider putting the control in the hands of e.g. the tvrcc to make hard copies etc and be the custodians, paying him a royalty for each one shipped. Frankly even if it was £100 I think it would be a steal.
I'll bet he's just sick of the hassle of printing and distributing it...

As far as I know the TVRCarclub Germany has turned down the publication of the files...

Very good idea, it would certainly help fellow owners and enthusiasts.

Excellent idea, I'm sure people are only making 'pirate copies' out of frustration at not being able to get an original?

A few years back (2016) I dropped Graham an email asking if he was going to consider doing a print - rerun. In 2017 a reprint was indeed done and I put my name down for one. I've got to admit; it wasn't well advertised anywhere that it was actually happening.

Cost then £98.
