Repairing the Airbox
Discussion
Hello All,
The SP6 airbox is moulded / vac formed plastic. Would GRP be suitable to repair / modify?
Suni's airbox fouls the bulkhead plugs for the wiring loom but is also tight to the underside of the windscreen area. I was thinking of using a holesaw to form an opening them moulding in a rebate using a aerosol can cap and GRP (as it is to hand).
Suitable?

You could probably do it in GRP smooth on top of a courser grade but it would look a mess.
Many motorbike parts are made from 'plastic'
Type into google motor bike panel repair, as its similar to what you want to do.
Its basically plastic welding, old fashioned soldering iron, cable tie for the filler rod
perhaps a plastic body filler spreader for and new plastic that you may need.

As with metal welding, best results are obtained by using 'parent' material for the patch and the rods. If you're looking to create a rebate, it may be possible to create (most of) it by reversing the section you cut out... plan carefully first with paper patterns. Many motorbike parts are made from 'plastic'

Alternatively, if it's a thermo plastic, could you not create a rebate by warming and reshaping the area?
