Now that I've had the car a couple of months and hopefully got the initial Blackpool gremlins sorted out, I thought it would be interesting to compare how new cars have improved with time (if at all), especially after the arrival of N.S.

I'll go first.

T350c, registered Jan 2005

Air con didn't work - trapped wire
Windscreen leak above passenger seat - windscreen to be removed and refitted next week
Oil leak from oil sensor
Coolant leak from plug in engine block
Stereo front panel and bezel rattle (really annoyingly) at 3000rpm resonance (fixed with some silicon rubber and a piece of felt)

Improvements, compared with stories I've seen on here from the past, no sign of excess glue anywhere and the paintwork is perfect.

sounds like there still no real quality control then.it very much looks like theyre only improving the bits you can see-paint and glue, and neglecting to check the car properly before delivery.its a shame they dont design an exhaust to get rid of that awfull resonance either-it really annoyed me on my tuscan, your always likely to get trim rattle eventually with this.overall very dissapointed for you,not good for the rep of tvr either especially when they want us to believe things are getting better, clearly they arent.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the car and can easily forgive it all of these niggles. It just seems to me that people keep saying quality is improving but can't qualify it. I'm interested to know (having never had a Tiv from new before) were new cars worse than this in the past or has NS yet to really make a difference?

Mine had the oil sensor leak after 6,000 miles, and has an iffy speedo sensor (which you'd never even notice driving at normal speeds), but absolutely no mechanical snags. Lots of trim snags though, all minor.

Sounds like TVR are getting better at finishing off the car properly, but there are still mechanical gotchas now and then.

When I bought my first Tuscan back in 2001 these we're the niggles:

  • Passenger door not opening (software update sorted this)

  • Reversing light not working (dead bulb)
    - Digital display erratic output (software update sorted this)

  • Intermittent wipers not working (software update sorted this)

  • Heat/AC on drivers side not working (vent was carpeted over)

  • Replaced missing tyre valve covers (local BMX gange 'borrowed' them)

  • Wind noise/water leakage at from of doors sorted (replace rubber seal on both doors)

Pretty minor compared to the mainstream cars I've had in the past where the problems we're mechanical and engine related from new. I've never had a new car that hasn't had niggles so I find it unfair that the fingers always point at TVR when there are just as many problems with mainstream and mass-produced cars.

My new Tamora, delivered in January and just through its 1000m service was fundamentally OK, but had a few niggles:
the electric windows played until lubricated, headlamp cover misted over, and inevitably the radio doesn;t work when its raining! Otherwise, spot on, and no worse than any BMW or Merc I've had. BTW, does heated air only come out of the top vents on a Tam, or do I have another niggle?

I had the same concerns when I first got my Tam in November... heated air comes from windscreen vents and footwell vents, and only cold air comes from the front console vents.

Mine was new in July last year. Issues were as follows:

Heat exchanger had a fault (August 2004)
ECU / Immoboliser had a fault (November 2004)
Extra expansion tank fitted for cooling (November 2004) as it used run a little hot.

Thats it that I can think of.

Compared to the German cars we have owned, its a god send!

Mind you it had a very thorough PDI and I can not fault the TVR Centre for the work they put in to the car to make it that way.

Now done 6000 miles. Its lovely!

Dec 2003 T350T

1) Jumping out of 5th
2) Usual Targa Panel issues.
3) Bonnet fouling wiper blades.
4) Paint bubbles around front lights
5) Passenger window did not lower to open door
6) Both cat cans cracked at Oulton park in August

But all fixed in a timely manner except the Panels which I tweeked myself.

In typical TVR style it feels better sorted after every service.

April 04 Tamora

Been pretty good compared to the Tuscan. New oil pressure switch thingy. Passenger door does't like to open. Drivers door window doesn't like to close. And that BLOODY EFI code everytime I start her up is starting to get on my t1ts. But apart from that I'm well happy.

Why is it, after watching the great Fred Dibnah, every post sounds like him when I read it? It's as if I'm reading 'bout steam traction engine - lad.

Same here.

Strangely I've noticed I regain a strong Yorkshire accent when I'm visiting the US now. Was on the East Coast last week and I was all "by 'ecks like me lad"
