I may find myself moving back to the UK in the near future, and would like to replace the Chim 450 I gave up when I left last year.

I have been thinking about the Tamora, but haven't really heard much about the reliability of the car. My Chim was bullet proof, and only gave me trouble when I tried to level a Kerb with my front wheel.

I will only buy used, but it isn't hard to find good cars if you know what to look for.

Any feedback on the Tamora or T350 reliability?

There's a lot of very happy Tamora owners round these parts - and not many who moan about unreliability. It appears they mostly hold together quite well. I'm on my second, and very pleasing it is too!

Incidentally, are you still USA-based? If so, how are you going to keep a Tamora?

(BTW, mine might be for sale, at the right price )

I love the car, and apologies to my fellow owners, but I do have to give some negative comments.

It's my first TVR, a 2002 car with 8k on the clock when I got it 6 months ago, and it does seem to have quality problems - my heating has just packed up for the 2nd time, still haven't cured the water leak from coolant system despite several attempts by dealer, and the engine blew up.

I'm afraid I have to join all the Speed 6 doom-sayers, as 2 friends of mine also recently bought Sp 6 engined cars - Tuscan and T350 - and they're both currently having rebuilds, so that's a 100% failure rate amongst the people I know, which is absolutely atrocious.

Not trying to be picky, but neither of these are Tamoras. I know they're speed 6 cars, but the question asked is about Tamora reliability - I have had two, I have conversed in depth with about 10 Tamora owners, and I know of only one that had an engine failure - and that was a very early dealer demo car, which I am told had a 4.0l engine in it anyway.

My two have been rock solid, so in my personal experience, that's 100% reliabilty. But that merely shows how easy it is to be overly negative and also overly optimistic.

I have thus far, had no real problems regarding reliability with my Tam also, although, because of what has been written (mostly on the Tuscan forum, and mostly, as Nubbin has stated are 4 litre cars), I do worry about if and when the engine's gonna go pop. When I look at it, and drive it, all negativity goes out the window, however, it is stunning, but have never been under any illusions about reliability, niggles I have accepted and fixed (buying a car with eyes wide open helps)!
Even the insurance is cheaper than what it was for my Chim 450!, I had £70 back when I changed the details!
My Tam is even put together a lot better than the Chim, a lot of people tend to forget that before the new batch of TVRs, there were just as many complaints about finish and reliability with the V8 cars!

I think most of us don't look at Tam ownership with rose tinted spectacles, like some have suggested, the truth is, a lot of us haven't had any real big issues during ownership (although I do feel for Alex and the chain breaking, knackering the engine )

.

Ive had my Tamora for nearly three years now and with 16000 miles and regular use it has been nothing but a joy. There have been a few minor niggles but then Ive had the same with my Mini Cooper which is a similar age.

There has been no engine rebuld but, if it needs one i have factored it into my thinking and although not desirarable it is managable.

The car makes everyone smile, me when i drive it and others when they see or hear it (lambourghini diablo orange)

A degree of luck seems to be needed to have trouble free motoring but for a car of such immense capabilities i feel immensly lucky. My previous car was a 4.5 Chim and the Tamora is a much much better car.

I may have a possible job move which would take me out of the UK so my car could be for sale in a month or so's time. Email me if you want more info. If that happened I would certainly consider buying another one on my return.

Regards from a very happy Tamora owner.

Regardless of your own good S6 experiences Nubbin I think it's pretty reckless to not even mention the S6 issues to someone who obviously doesn't know much about the S6 cars so they can make a measured buying decision...

A pretty key part of the Tamora reliability being the engine block and all that!

Regardless of my experience? That is exactly what is being requested - owners' experiencees of reliability!

As for reckless, someone has posted that speed 6 engines, in his experience, are 100% unreliable. I merely posted my totally opposite reality.

I was in the UK for ten years, and returned to the USA in late 2003. I may find myself back in the UK come this summer, which would be for three to five years. I waited way too long to buy my first TVR last time, and don't intend to repeat that mistake.

I loved my Chim and that Rover V8, but also liked the idea of upgrading to the Tamora. It sounds like the speed six is the big issue. Maybe I should look at any cars made after 2003?

Thanks for the input.

Jasper is spot on !

Had a minor niggle with her after after I'd done 3000 miles on top of the 3000 it came with.

Same old problem that part of the engine was made of cheese by mistake. Went off to the seaside where some proper metal bits were used instead. Seemed to do the trick and the engine has been 100% for 6000 miles since.

Use it everyday (apart from last Thursday!) and can't think of anything else I would rather be in. I don't regret getting a SP6 in the slightest.

etc.

Bestest car I've ever had, I can imagine I will be keeping it a long time. As to reliability I had to replace a fuse today.

Yeah, but a T350 is mechanically identical to a Tamora, and is a more recently developed car, so if anything, it should be better.

But as we don't really understand the reason for the engine issues, the Tamora may be designed in a way that makes the issue less pronounced. I suspect the Tamora does not share identical parts in the engine/tranmission/cooling dept.

Do I need to say any more, 2 degrees today, needed to give it a run as not used for two weeks. Told her indoors onnly 10 mins, roof off 1 hour later back in, no money in pocket and 3 litres of petrol left, damn the electronics!.

I fancied a 350 but in my opinion if you want a sports car it has to be a convertible.

English summers warn rain etc.

Edited due to crap spealling.

Do it you won't regret it.

I have had a few minor niggles and a small end bearing went in the engine recently, but now back and running better than ever. Service from factory and dealer have been top class.

I have had numerous so called quality cars, (German)and i have had more trubble with them than the TVR!!

It's the only TVR in the current range with a soft top, makes all the right noises, looks fantastic, goes like stink, what more could you ask for,(oh and i get 30mpg on a run).

If you are as enthusiastic as most of us are, you wont regret it.

Hilti.
