Was thinking about putting some upgraded speakers in the back of the Tamora this weekend. Would appreciate any tips and advice..

a) What size speakers are standard??
b) What would you recommend upgrading to - size and make/model
c) How easy is it to install? Do I need to do much cutting of carpet, fiberglass etc

Any help and suggestions welcome..

Thanks..

I don't know the answer to your questions but I recently had some larger Kenwood speakers installed by a specialist. They didn't need to cut the carpet in the boot but, being larger speakers, there are now two slight humps behind the boot carpet.

can give youi more info later but in a bit of a rush at mo...

In summary... 4" are standard, I fitted 5 1/4" Infinity Reference, and am very happy with them - you have to cut about a 1" extra crescent in the direction of the centre of the car for them to fit.... Any larger and you have problems with the boot relaese solenoid, and they would ultimately be closer together..

On the Tamora I'd suggest 6x9s in the rear. Your average Pioneers will do just fine - lots of bass. you'll have to get the jigsaw out to cut a bigger hole in the rear bulkhead though.

I guess fronts for Tamoras are the same as T350s. Last weekened I retrofitted front door speakers in pods which TVR supplied. £37 for each pod trimmed in my flavour trim. Wires were already waiting behind the door skin and connected to the head unit at the other end. Just a case of careful cutting and sawing. I used my original 10cm rear speakers in the front - perfect fit. I upgraded to 13cm speakers in the rear (as has been said we have an issue with the boot solenoid being in the way on the T350 otherwise 6x9s would fit - some people have made custom enclosures for 6x9s in a T350 though).

Recent T350s (and I assume Tamoras) have nice speakers down in the door pockets. Bit too costly to do on our 'older' models though.

Targarama - where abouts in the front doors did you put your speaker pods as I am looking to put fronts into my 350 as well?

Take it you just ordered the pods from your local dealer?

It made A LOT of difference from the standard one's that came with the car. I also had some tweeters installed in the front. Now I can actually hear my music above the Speed6 growl!

I spent a long time uming and ahing about how and where to put front speakers. Obviously in the lower pockets is best, like on newer cars - replacing this leather section would be costly though (I had a quote from one ICE place to make some custom enclosures for £1000 - bit high maybe). I even thought about placing some 10cm speakers in the flat part of the door panel near the bottom towards the rear. In the end I plumped for standard pods as per the optional extra on many T350s, bought through my dealer and trimmed to my requirements.

I positioned them in the same place as the factory too. They are shaped to fit over the upper door trim and can fit further forward or backward, but you either have trouble getting things into/out of the pocket or the speaker gets in the way then.
