I no Im setting myself up for some abuses, but you have to laugh when alls said and done.

OK hear goes I washed car today, as I live in a hard water area I have to dry the car afterwards otherwise it dries like a zebra.
So after using one & a half rolls of kitchen towel there I was please with myself that I got it done just before it got dark (the operative word here is dark).
So come 8 oclock I thought I'd just pop down to the local Tescos for some groceries. On the way back just as I was just turning into my street I began to smell something burning, as if someone was having a bondfire.
It was'nt till I was sitting outside my house waiting for my electric gate to open when smoke starts bellowing out of the bonnet vents.

FK turn engine off jump out of car open bonnet and run in house to get 4 kettles full of cold water to throw over exhaust side off engine bay.
Eventually get some lighting sorted out and found the problem.

The dosey PRTT that had cleaned and dried the car 3 hours earlier had left the cardboard center of one of the kitchen rolls by the bonnet vent.
It had fallen on to the exhaust while I was driving and started to smolder .

Oops.

I live in a hard water area so need to dry the car too. Why don't you just use a leather or similar drying cloth like the rest of us?

Betcha don't do that one again!

I think laughing's the best policy, not too good to dwell on the "might have beens", although the insurance claim form might have been an interesting read.

Hope your Tesco Trolley gives you years of pleasure without going the toastie route!

Had a similar one driving through London. Stuck in Traffic and the car gets very hot. Then I'm on the bridge near Fulham and smoke comes up through the vents!!!
Manage to get off the bridge and pull over - open the bonnet and find a big leaf smoldering away on my exhaust manifold. It'd blown in through the vent I guess.

I was lucky that the engine bay on that side is covered in that heat refecting shield, and there was no wiring to fry so no damage done.

Your lack of required apostrophes is what made me laugh.

Only kidding!
