Hi all,
well after hitting a plank(only doing 60mph honest) at 23.30 on a Sunday night and buckiling the wheel I thought as she was in being fixed we would get the small oil leak sorted out.Well she had a new head gasket and rubbers installed and guess what ............still leaking. So now the engine is at Blackpool coz they ain't seen this fault before. They think it could be a cracked cylinder head but who knows. I am now in glorious sunshine with a Primera!!!!

Dicky, sorry to hear it!
How many miles has she done?
Has she always leeked oil since you've gad her?
Any idea when you'll get her back?
If it's any consolation it's not sunny in Leamington at the moment!
Cheers..... Andrew

ok for all those that do want to know(and also for me to get it off my chest)
The engine came back from Blackpool and was fitted back into the Tamora. They started her up and now ther's a compression problem, so guess what............ the engine is now being pulled back out of the car and sent back to Blackpool. This is not turning out to be a simple oil leak!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also had an engine problem - cam wear ("due to a bad batch of cam/followers"). This was uncovered at the 1000 mile service and meant me having a Volvo V40 for 3 weeks during that lovely summer spell in April (the estate actually came in handy - hmmmm!) I assume that they would have uncovered this in your engine with the work they are doing, but may want to ask - birds/stones!

Can't they start the bloody things and test them before they send them back to the dealers!?!??

This isn't the first time I've heard people have engines go to Blackpool, come back and then almost immediately go wrong again.

Andrew...its never sunny in a part of Leamington due to that dark cloud that hangs over a certain establishment....

still Griffless....

do any of you still believe this myth that normal engine development / durability testing can be replaced by giving engines to racers, applying a bit of British pluck and hoping for the best?

as an enthusiast I'd love it to work.
As someone who runs an engine testing establishment I'm convinced it doesn't...

You could argue that they did get the AJP8 sorted...? Or am I just being optimistic?

NDT - depends whether the feedback from the racers is incorporated into any engine upgrade development (!)

....you can drag a horse to water etc etc

Frustrating to say the least. When are they going to get these damned engines sorted out .... I think most of us drive around ( particularily on long journeys ) wondering if its about to explode.

And they are about to start selling a £75K sports car with a more highly tuned variant - Hmmmmm ......

If I were you I would demand a new engine or if you a really unhappy a full refund.

Its about time TVR started taking quality a bit more seriously instead of producing new models all the time.

ok well it was a brand new engine that went in first time , then came back not right so back she went to Blackpool, got her back last wednesday and she lasted 360 miles or 36 hours. this time the reverse light came on in 5th, an EFI fault light came on and she wouldn't run in traffic, well give Mole Valley their due, they have fixed all the problems swifly and I've got her back and we are off trying to do the 1000 mile run in again, then she goes back in anyway to have the bodywork done and the snagging work on her, so when I get back off my hols she should be looking alot better. So that is where we are , 6 weeks of nice weather and no car have all been forgotten about, just hope she lasts longer than 4000 miles.
