Hi Guys / Girls

I bought a fantastic 2002 Tamora from Fernhurst last Saturday. It is my first TVR and I absolutely love it!

I've read in on this forum before I bought it and picked up some handy tips and things to look out for, cheers.

Look forward to contributing as much as I can.

Just a couple of quick questions that some of you may be able to help me with (sorry to ask on my first visit to the forum).

Does anybody know of a good place to get my TVR serviced and generally looked after in the East Midlands (preferably Nottingham).

Also, (I think it's a common problem), the glove box keeps popping open when I'm driving over bumpy ground. Has anyone got an ingenious solution or is there even a fix available on the market or is this a "TVR thing" I'm going to love to live with?

Many thanks in advance.

Welcome!

Re the glovebox - it's very common that one of the catch components comes unstuck from the lid or dash. In fact all three Tamoras I looked at when I bought second-hand had this problem! If so then you just need to use some araldite or similar to glue it back again. Rough up the surfaces with some sandpaper first so the glue sticks.

If the catch is actually broken then you need a new one - just make sure whatever you replace it with is slim enough for it to sit flush. One repair job I saw with a magnetic catch was too bulky so it never looked fully closed.

Hope this helps

I use TMS at Melton Mowbray they are pretty good. Have looked after me in the past. I use the pick up and drop off it works out cheaper than driving down from Donny. But if you need a car they they always seem to offer something.(sadly not a tvr though).

Hi

Just had mine back from Peter Smith in Derby. They did a great job putting it back together!

Missed the car far too much while it was gone, great to have it back.

Hope you enjoy yours. Keep those eyes peeled for Puntos!!

You could always join the Tamora register when you have 5 minutes and a photo handy!

Silverstone are a great bunch of lads and very proffesional. Bought my Tamora from there and certainly intend to take it back there for servicing.

Hi Ceecee

Im a youngster in the TVR world also, but heading for my 1000 mile servcie at TMS in Melton Mowbry next week.

Re the glovebox, I saw a thread which suggested loosening the washer a little so the magnet can get a better hold. I havent tried it yet but will do this weekend.

Have fun.

Get to B+Q, and buy a small round magnetic cupboard catch. Drill a small pilot hole into the flat piece on the lid where the catch plate sits (take that off first!) then tap in the metal catch plate. The take out the glovebox, and shape the front lip to accommodate the magnetic catch. Once you're happy, stick it in place with glue, double sided tape, silicone sealant, or whatever you like. it works very well on my car, and is actually how TVR now fix glovebox lids (except theirs aren't from B+Q!!)

Saw this and read it as "Tramrider" which as they come from Blackpool might be more appropriate Rich...

I've probably said it more than twice - it follows a very hairy incident I had a few weeks back on a wet straight road. I didn't provoke my Tam at all but the back wheels suddenly became jealous of the front ones! Apparently about 6 or 7 TVR deaths have been reported on PH since March. Bit scary!

... just too much for the road conditions you'll get used to it!

Indeed.

And I don't want to sound like an old-git but... there is whole generation of drivers now who have never experienced RWD and of course being young they know everything yet all of a sudden "whoops" It's gone, but not their fault! There's some chap on another forum convinced it's either his tyres or his suspension or the road but no mention of his heavy right boot! It's the same with the number of Honda S2000s being written off at the moment. Greasy roads, RWD, take it easy, some people learn the hard way. Cest la vie Rich...
