TVR Perf. Tech. Day in a Tamora
Discussion
Just got back from the TVR Performance Technique Driving Day at the Bedford Autodrome. There were just under 50 cars so that meant an open pit lane throughout the day.
I know Flasher took his Tamora on the track recently and I have to agree with him that the Tamora on 18" wheels was incredible!
The poise though the corners, the acceleration out and the braking were faultless!
This was only my second track day so I'm no expert but after a few laps with an instructor the Tamora was able to pass anything! I realise that there were more novices on this track day than most others but it's still nice to have Cerbera 4.5s and Tuscan Ss pull over on the straights after a tight bend!
There were about 7 Tamoras there including the yellow factory TVR 100. I think 4 were dealer demos so that left one other customer Tamora. I had a chat with the guy but he'd not heard of Pistonheads!
I had a look over TVR 100 and there's now quite a few changes from my car. All the door/window seals are different, so is the radio surround, handbrake sleeve and bonnet release.
My dealer took their Tuscan S demo so I had a few laps in that. The Tamora was more fun and definitely more planted through the corners. The Tamora was like a cart but you could feel the Tuscan S shifting weight more. The Tuscan S won on straight line speed though touching 137mph (indicated) on the straight whereas the Tamora reached 132mph (indicated).
Also overheard the instructors late on. They all agreed that the Tamora was the 'best' car of the day!
Not to forget was the passenger ride in the Tuscan racer! Incredible! Now that was fast!
Cheers...... Andrew
PS. Flasher, the track day at Donnigton on August 17th sounds good. I'll let you know?

Lance, these are the differences I noticed on TVR 100 that the TVR mechanic said are now standard:-
1. Door seal attached to roof continues down a couple of inches more than mine so that it's lower than the top of the door.
2. The extra few inches of roof seal at the fronts has ben cut off because it always gets caught when stored in the boot.
3. There's some sort of 'stopper' half way along the roof seal between the roof and the seal.
4. The hard plastic bits on the front and back of the doors are now larger and softer.
5. The bonnet release is now under the steering column.
6. The radio surround is alloy rather than plastic.
7. There's an allow surround at the base of the bandbrake.
8. There's a one way valve fitted to the windscreen washer pipe (mine leaked badly onto the screen on high speed corners).
I think that's it! My dealer took a few photos of the seals so that I can get them fitted when my car goes back for some paintwork.
When you do go on the track I'd remove the wheel centres from your fronts. One of mine came off and the other was loose! It was the same for all the other Tamoras and Tuscans! The backs were fine though!
Cheers.... Andrew

Why not stick the wheel centres on with silicone sealant - I have and it works!
I will be asking for all the mods that Andrew has noted, to be fitted FOC at my next service. I'm damned if spec. changes make my car lose value in the first year of ownership - these are things that should have been on the car in the first place!

basically it hasnt in the past, at least not officially. this is one of the drivers behind early depreciation that porsche owners dont suffer. but if TVR are serious about improving quality (which they'll need to be for the US market) they need to think very hard about this. It'll all come down to discretionary decisions by your dealer so just be nice to them! Having said that any safety-related mods should be made automatically, and there are some on the Tamora
quote:Interesting - this is something that has happened on every TVR that I've been in, so this mod may apply to all current cars....This does confuse me a bit though - how can the one way valve work? I mean the water only ever goes one way - i.e. out of the squirters - it's not like it's a problem if the water goes back into the water tank....

Anyone any ideas?
cheers,

Stovey,
I purchased my Tamora from TMS, but would prefer not to make a 250 mile round trip every time it goes back in for servicing etc.
Mole Valley at Chessington are my local dealers and I was just wondering how you find the service there?
Does anyone know if the car has to be returned to the supplying dealer for warranty work, or can this be undertaken by any franchised dealer?
Thanks.

Rob,
Mole valley have two sections. One in chessington the other in redhill.
I use redhill, it seems mine is the first tamora they,ve seen so they are still getting used to it.Having said that they still fixed most of the problems i have, so i can't complain.
They are friendly and helpfull at both with most of the sales guys at chessington. Redhill has one sales guy untill about miday i think.
I've only done my 1000m service so far but I hear they are more expensive than some..
There is a general tvr thread that talks about mole valley and folk seem happy.(general tvr stuff and gossip page3 : tvr sales boom )
