So how does one depart from the lights in a hurried manner? Does one raise the revs and then dump the clutch, or does one move away smoothly and then floor it?

In the interests of clutch preservation, I'd go for the second option...

Also consider that dumping the clutch will more than likely break traction and leave you in a cloud of tyre smoke being beaten off the line by a chav-sport nova!
