CRAZY: T350 with Tuscan S engine for sale
Discussion
As crazy as it sounds, I might have to sell my T350!!!!
The reason being that I can't get the car registered in Luxembourg!!! I have tried pretty much any imaginable avenue, but it seems that it won't happen. The reason being - THIS IS CRAZY! - that the car's emissions are too good!!! The story goes as follows, Lux. car legislation allows for a "lambda" value to be between two variables, highest allowed and lowest. The T350 falls throug because it's value is too good. This country is really f.... up.
I am having the factory look into this, and working it out with the local TVR guys at ACCEL, who are trying to figure out a trick. If this doesn't work over the next days, the car will have to go, as I can't stand the car sitting in ACCEL's showroom.
For those of you who do not know the car or the history, and I know that many do, here is a recap of the features of what is undoubtly one of the fastest TVRs ever build.
This car was delivered new to me by Gatwick TVR and was a VERY special order. The car was ordered in silver with black leather, black lamonta inserts in seats and door panels, grey leather highlights and grey stitching. It also came with air-co and upgraded stereo.
To this I added: factory prepared Tuscan S engine (4 liter), full red rose conversion - including upgraded brakes, Nitron suspension fully adjustable, three piece Racing Hart wheels with P Zeros, special stainless steel sports exhaust.
In addition I paid Gatwick TVR to run the car in, and work out all the engine as well as chassis settings with the new suspension. Since then (3 months ago), the car has not been driven :-( Thus it is still on its initial shakedown miles by Gatwick TVR. The first service has also been carried out. This is basically a new car.
As a result, this turned out to be the most expensive and exclusive T350, but a car that is faster than any Tuscan S, T350 or given its sleeker aerodynamics, it suspension etc. probably faster than a Sagaris - if they ever start delivering them.
I welcome serious offers on the car, and will inform you guys shortly if indeed I have to sell.
A very sad and pissed off G. posting this :-(

Thanks guys appreciate all of your feedback. Unfortunately all and more has been tried, including remapping the ECU. The problem is that no matter what you do, you can't get the 4 liter to do what the 3.6 liter claims to do (which is already wrong), thus literally the only solution outside of some "funny" trick, is to change to a 3.6 liter engine for registration. The problem here is that the complete collectors, exhaust and cats are different (this one has high perf cats which I forgot to mention).
In any case ACCEL is looking at it, and I know that they had a word with Marc Minne, but he doesn't have the answer. The guy mapping the computer, is the guy that has already helped the factory with the Tuscan S. This is a f...ing mess!
More to come.

how much are you looking for it?
I know here in Belgium some people register their cars in Luxembourg for tax reasons - perhaps the reverse is possible?
You could also look at keeping it UK registered and insuring it through Stuart Collins. He doesnt require you to be a UK resident only that the car is UK taxed and MOT'd (only necessary after it is 3 years old) and that the car returns to the UK once per year.

who is this stuart collins? would be interested to find out more for insurance abroad?
Sacha,
here is the link for the Stuart Collins website

The insurance isnt cheap compared to if you are insuring a car for normal use in the UK, but I found it comparible to insuring my TT here in Belgium and it saved some of the onerous taxes they have here.
It is also great as you dont have to pretend to be a Uk resident or any other such shady things, everything is completely upfront - reassuring if you ever need to make a claim
Good luck and if you do decide to sell the car let me know what you are looking for price wise....

I find it hard to be sympathetic with somebody with such a fabulous collection of cars! There is a fine line between envy and jealousy, and I can't work out which side of it you are on.
Seriously though, I hope you get it sorted out, it would be a real shame if you go to all the effort to get the car sorted, and then are unable to drive it.

Jim,
I love sharing my passion for cars, and as a matter of fact, I can easily get excited about cars, regardless of price, if they are fun and specially if the owner likes to talk "petrol". Thus in most cases people that know me, tend to fall on the positive side of things ;-) Although I have had some "special" encounters.
In any case, and even if I had 10 times as many cars, I do care about each one of them and I certainly hate wasting money because of bureaucracy - which will be the case if I can't register this TVR.

have you driven a regular T350? How does the 4 litre compare?

I have driven a std T350 and this is MUCH faster, specially once in gear where torque really plays (Albeit I haven't used the full RPM range yet). This car is faster than a Tuscan S. Brakes are Red Rose spec, suspension is fully adjustable and made to spec Nitron (three sets of dampers were tested on the car before retaining this current setup). Wheels are lightweight modular (3 piece) wheels from Hart in Japan.
The guys at Gatwick TVR (Peter and/or Paul) can provide all details about the car, mods and the "drive-in" mileage.
