proper battery
Discussion
Hi, thought this might be a simple thing, but no. Where can I buy a battery that actually fits a tamora without chopping bits of it off or fabricating custom clamps?
Places like tvr shop and racetech sell a battery to fit ALL tvrs which afaik is ridiculous.
Unfortunately the one on my car is not the correct type either...
Thanks

Take it with you to the motor factors and say 'I want an 069 round post please with this CCA & output that looks like this'. I got mine from a local place that I think is part of the A1 group. Its usually the case the batteries don't have the profile on the bottom to clamp down rather than they do. Don't go to Halfrauds they are just cocksockets. Old school motor factors will see you right. The battery hidey hole is the same for all T-cars

Thanks for the tip shep.
Btw I know T cars are the same, but this thing here http://www.racetechdirect.co.uk/tvr-car-part-m0140... claims to fit anything from the S series through to the t440r!
I know a cerbs and a tuscan2 battery dont fit a tam because the well known dealer that sold me the car tried them on the car with me present... coz when I went to get the car, after I the money and was literally about to drive off the battery died... left the car and was assured a proper battery would be fitted, but come the service and the shambles that was the battery compt was revealed...

This should fit: http://www.varta-automotive.com/en-gb/products/aut...
You can purchase it from many dealers.

Yes, thats bloody expensive too. I paid about £55 for mine 3 years ago and its still going strong, car lives out in the heat/cold and occasionally it goes flat when I forget to put it on the CTeck. The issue with the T-cars is width so you can get the clamp bolt hole to line up, plenty of height to play with as even an Optima red-top will fit. If your battery cables are long enough or you are happy to change them you can get a battery with the posts reversed on it to move the live terminal away from the chassis rail. Don't forget to have a good look at your Anderson connector when your are down there, many a crispy TVR has been attributed to this failing and shorting out. I went one step further and resin filled the top of the connector to stop the pins moving, the theory being if the casing cracks the pins still can't move to cause a dead short. FYI this does NOT fit (BLUE dynamic 574 013 068), it is in fact the same shape as what was in there before and has to sit up on the chassis on one side. You can purchase it from many dealers.
If anyone does know for a FACT what battery of correct spec FITS in the tray without cutting bits off it (as far as I can see that only makes it un-clampable), please let me know.
Double annoyed that battery suppliers around here dealing direct with public want to charge nearly double... like fking vultures praying on desperation.
Thanks

Being an 086 round post I am not surprised it won't fit as its too long. You need an 069 or 072 round post (072 sometimes have a higher CCA but are the same size) 069/072 are shorter by 8mm (270mm rather than 278mm for the 086) and should fit. I am getting one like in the link below during the week so can report back next weekend if it fits which I am sure it will. Cheapest I have found is £58 on flee bay, all the motor factors wanted £85If anyone does know for a FACT what battery of correct spec FITS in the tray without cutting bits off it (as far as I can see that only makes it un-clampable), please let me know.

My motor factor wanted £100 for the privilege.I had the distinct feeling that he made that up on the spot. Wouldn't move on it either... ordered it online out of spite more than anything.

That surprises me. Sorry for the misinformation then. I measured my chassis-plate a while ago when looking for a battery and thought it should have taken the blue dynamics:Length [mm]: 278
Width [mm]: 175
Height [mm]: 190

Going to measure mine later. I wonder if the welded lip to the inside of the tray is a bit variable in how it was fixed to the chassis thus it limits what will/won't fit? The Varta battery has a higher CCA & current rating than all the 069 type batteries I have seen though so it would make a better replacement in terms of battery capacity and durability

Right; measured up the battery tray and edge to edge its 270mm wide less 5-6mm for the welded hold down tab on the inner side of the compartment. I purchased the following battery that has a rating of 70A and a CCA of 635 this is a higher rating than the 069 round post version but it has the same dimensions.

The new battery is slightly smaller at 260mm including the clamping profiles to the sides. The height is slightly taller at 220mm which should not be an issue and the width is the same at 165mm. I have test fitted it and it goes in fine.

Holy my own thread resurrection... I don't even recognize my own writing... I was a little irate about batteries...
Still am... again...
Unsurprisingly, given the series of inconclusive battery threads, it would seem that the last battery we know to fit a standard Tam without any modifications WAS: https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/enduroline/0...
As you can see from the picture, it seems they discontinued the tabs on the short edge.
In another unholy battery thread resurrected last week, it was suggested: https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/yuasa/ybx306...
But the poster says its 9mm wider, but still fits, but it's a Sag... I dunno if its a bit different/wider than the tam on that bit, so again, inconclusive unless others confirm.
Does anyone know which is THE battery these days that will fit and clamp as per original and meet the specs?
Many thanks
