Been offered a demo car for £3k under list, do you consider this a decent price?
If I ordered a new one, in my prefered colours, allowing for the current offer of free a/c and pearl paint, the car will be around £39300 otr, delivery 6 weeks.
Dealer claims their demo car (not my ideal colour choice) cost them £42k, because they paid for it before the current offer began, and has been offered to me at around £36400
I don't know what everyone else thinks, but for me £3k less, in the scale of things, isn't enough incentive.
What I don't understand is that if this is indicative of how keen dealers are to turn-over stock, when TVR are wanting to increase annual sales four fold, how are they going to achieve this target?

I think that discounts on ex demo's or pre-registered cars are pretty normal. We were offered a pre registered Tamora for GBP38k when we were looking with 15miles on the clock. I see that its now for sale again for GBP33k with 6.5k on the clock. This I think is good news as it shows residuals are firming for the 319 Tamora's still on the road (I presumed Nubbins old one was never rebuilt).

Sorry about the GBP bit no pound sign on this US keyboard.

Most important thing is, when it was first registered (for warranty purposes).

Mine was a TMS demo, and as a result was ready to be 'driven' straight away, whereas with a new car your are looking at a fair few months of running in.

I would say that if it is in a standard colour, half leather, a/c, that could buy for £35k-ish, espectially due to time of year, in comparison to when I bought in May with summer around the corner.

I went through this. I wanted as new a car as possible to give me the maximum possible factory warranty. I do not know the discounts/markup on a new car from a dealer but just so you know, I bought a brand new Targa with aircon, pearl paint and leather door wotsits for 39,995. I don't think the dealer made a loss. It was such a good price I didn't even try and beat the dealer down. It was from dealer stock and I suspect they didn't make a huge profit, but it had only gone in their showroom a week or two earlier so it wasn't a 'stock clearance' or anything.

So when I see some dealers trying to sell 'new' T350s for 42-45k (depending on targa and spec etc.) I know that has to be extra profit. Some dealers have had cars in stock for ages. TVR Centre recently had a Blue targa in stock (not sure if it's still there, but was 2 weeks ago) which was there when I went for a test drive in March - early targa style fitments etc. all for more money than other's I've seen. Peninsular have a Spectraflair Silver Targa for sale for around 40 - it's been for sale since March when I was looking as I went to see it and may have bought it too (silly dealer didn't follow up and I found my current car anyway - newer, more warranty, no miles etc.). County TVR seem to have some amusing prices too.

I would say 39k is fair for a specced T350C, maybe try and get the 1,000 and 6,000 services thrown in instead of a discount?

make sure it was warmed up properly by the sales man before he let the potential buyer loose!

So it shouldn't be driven very hard at all at this mileage. As I'm sure you have read, running in and running habits when cold are crucial with the Speed Six engine. Most dealers will have treated it well so I'm sure it will be fine - as long as the car hasn't been given to a customer for a drive on their own.

AFAIK this dealer doesn't do solo test-drives.
During my test-drive the car was very carefully warmed up.

I'm sure it's a very genuine car, but their best offer is to close to the price of a new one.

This is the point I was trying to make, if they offer the same deal to every prospective buyer how do they hope to sell the car?
The current TVR offer of free pearl paint & a/c seems to have caused confusion in the marketplace. The dealer is passing on the cost of these extra's that they have already payed for, where you can now get them for free on a new car. I would have thought that if TVR are making a big push to sell more cars, that they would subsidise the dealer against this loss.
Also, I'm no accountant, but don't the dealers offset some of the costs of a demonstrator against depreciation?

Hi
It was good to make contact with your other half last night, and I look forward to meeting you both at a meeting maybe.
As good as James descibed your old car, and it did drive very well, I have decided to look for something new/nearly new. The full TVR warranty will give me more peace of mind.
Good luck with your new 111R when you get it the w/e

Not really your problem. They either want to shift it or they don't.

They can sell now at break even or a small loss or it can sit there depreciating costing them more every day.

I bought an ex demo dealer T350 and 1yr on I think it was good value - I have avoided most of the snagging type issues of a new build and have slightly less depreciation, and the colour combo is almost exactly what I would have chosen anyway.
