OK, with a bit of luck I'm getting close to changing my old 400se now and am thinking that, bank manager willing, I might just go the Tamora route.
I must confess to having some nerves about this though. My big wedge has been pretty reliable over the past 4 years and has just completed its first Le Mans run with absolutely no hassle.(145mph, roof down!)
Question is, given the horror stories surrounding the early Cerbs and Tuscans, have TVR finally got it right with the Tamora? Has anyone broken one yet? I don't meen piddly speedo problems or leaky roofs etc cos I can live with stuff like that, I mean engines, gearboxes and suspensions!
Elsewhere on PH, others have expressed doubts that things are right in Blackpool with the T cars even now. So c'mon Tamora community, spill the beans.......
Andy 400se (but spiritually moving Tamora-wards)

Andy, take a look at rest of the Tamora section. You won't find one person who's had a mecahnical problem. I think that's the answer you were looking for?
Cheers.... Andrew

Yep, I can also confirm I have heard of no problesm at all with any Tamoras except for the normal TVR niggles. Mine has been spot on !!!!!

I haven't heard of any problems either. Mine has been superb. I have noticed the dealers seem to rave on about the better quality also.

ok so loads of tiny bodywork niggles but the engine/gearbox/brakes feel absolutely bomb-proof and have needed nothing done

Yep, gotta go with the flow on this one. The usual, though minor, TVR trim niggles, but mechanically it feels rock solid. The passenger door electrics seem to be a recurring problem - flasher had a weird problem when the window only went half up, and recently for about 2 hours, mine opened when the alarm was set, and closed when I opened up, but the switches didn't work. However that cured itself when I took the switch unit out of the dash - I walked away from the car, came back and it all worked without replacing the switch unit?! It's fine now.

The bison on my car seems ok, but it is very soft and would tear or wear with buckles/studs etc from clothing. Part leather, part Lamonta on the seats would be good.

To be honest, it's perhaps a bit too early to say whether the car's going to be more mechanically sound than earlier Speed 6 engined cars.

When I bought my Cerbie S6 (April 2000-ish), the cars had been out for about 18 months. When I told dealers that I wanted a reliable Cerbie, all the ones I spoke to told me to avoid the V8 and go for the 'bullet proof' Speed 6 instead. However, as time has gone on, the Speed 6 has gained itself a bit of a reputation....

It sounds a great car, but if it was my cash again I'd wait until there were a larger number of cars that had done 12k miles or more with a large proportion having had no mechanical problems.

Mike.

Go for it. I have done nearly 8,000 miles now and the others are not that far behind. Remember that the Tamora is basicly a Tuscan with different body shell and suspension settings and a more basic interior. If they haven't got the S6 engine sorted by now they never will.....

Andymadmak, where do you live? I'll take you for a spin if you like, but I'm afraid I'm the only one insured, but at least I can show you the "bananas" side of the car, after which you can tet drive one to make your mind up. E-mail me through my profile if you like - I should be free on Friday morning and lunchtime.

Yeah, I reckon I will if the Tamora test lives up to expectations. I love the 400, I've had it 4 years now and its such a blast! Took it to Le Mans this year - 140+ on the Mulsanne, roof down and no troubles.
If I sell, I'll be looking for a good home for her though...... No riff raff!

You'll miss it.. it was great following you and Jeff to Chatsworth.. very distinctive cars with a classic retro look and a great sound...

Oh well.. good things must come to an end I suppose..

Matt.
