The battery has given up on the Tamora and, with the car currently in France, it seems finding a similar replacement isn't as easy as I thought. Can anyone recommend batteries to fit the Tamora? The one currently in the car is part Number "072", 72AH 620 CCA. The dimensions are 266x175x220mm (LxWxH) but most replacements of similar spec I can buy seem to be 278mm long. Does anyone know if this will fit? Read a bit about them not quite fitting in T350's...

The Varta E24 seems a good match (261mm long and ample spec), but without the lip around the base to secure the battery in the tray I'm not sure if it'll be that secure.

I'd appreciate any advice smile

If you go on the taynabatteries website, http://www.tayna.co.uk/ and type in the product code on the rhs. In your case 072. It will then display all the batteries that they have for that particular product code. That will also include all the dimensions, and you will be able to see if the battery that you want has the lip at the base of the battery too.

Insecure battery is an MOT failure but I guess thats not the immediate issue. II replaced mine with an 069 round post. The alternative was an 036 round post having the -ve & +ve terminals the other way round to minimise the risk of shorting on the chassis. I don't believe the design of the battery is specific to the code 069, 036 etc. I took mine to the shop and asked for one with the flanges on it.

Hiya...if you search for the following topic...then most of your details are there.
I used a VARTA E24 battery and then made a battery clamping bracket from two lengths of 6mm threaded bar, M6 nuts an washers and a bridging bar across the top of the battery.
The bridging bar was wrapped in insulation tape to avoid any electrical risks.

Just sorted my T350 battery yesterday. Bought a Bosch Silver 096 battery with 5yr guarantee. This replaced an 072. The new battery has 770A CCA vs the old battery with 660A. Terminals are the opposite way so the positive is away from the chassis.

The 096 had side lugs but is 278mm. so I used an electric plane to shave the lugs back to just fit. That gives enough of the lugs to still be retained just. Also had to cut off the extra thread on the engine mounting top stud to avoid it fouling the battery. Other than that it was all straight forward. This was the biggest battery I could find that would fit. Think that a few others have also gone for an 096 on the T-cars.

Why go for a bigger battery and all that palaver? The standard cranking amperage works just fine. Unless of course your car has starting problems. I can understand getting one with terminals the opposite way round though.

Three reasons basically, the obvious one about turning the terminals of course doesn't necessarily mean that the battery has to be bigger. But a larger battery will cycle less in terms of it's total capacity and generally have a longer lifetime because of this. Cold start performance will be better and I do use the car in winter, so a nice fast spin at -5 degrees in the morning is welcome. The third reason is that I have Xenons on the car and they are quite voltage sensitive. With a smaller battery I find they can flick on and off while cranking as the battery voltage drops further, there's less voltage drop on a larger capacity battery and I find that the xenons don't flicker when starting using the 096.

Of course a brand new 072 will be fine, but I find that a larger capacity battery stays fine for longer and the extra £20 I thought was worth it for me.

Thanks all for the advice.... have gone for the Enduroline 072 from the tayna website and it should be here Monday. Helpful chap on the phone too and postage to France was only 12 quid, can't argue with that!

When this battery won't fit, rattles around or tests your ingenuity making it fit, which I sincerely hope it doesn't, try the following - I bought one and it is EXACTLY the same size casing as the original TVR battery

Hi guys

Sorry to go off on a tangent here, and I know (I think) the topic was covered before I seem to remember, but is there any particular reason that TVR batteries tend to go flat quicker than standard cars?

I drove the car over the weekend and was fine, went out a long drive on Sunday and the parked up at night. Left the car until today and it wouldn't start tonight. it seems that if I leave it for any more than a couple of days without driving it, it will not start.

I have got a new battery, and a new alternator recently. The full charging system is fine, and always shows full charge when running and on start up, unless its been sitting for a couple of days.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the alarm system puts an unusual amount of strain on these cars, does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

Unplug your boot light for a week or so and see what happens.

Its under where the boot lock is, it just pulls out and is on spade connectors.

The boot light was the problem for me, I unplugged it 2 years ago and never got round to looking at why it stays on. This has reminded me to take a look.

I'll be sorting it this weekend. If you do find the cause of it, let me know as it's very frustrating! But I suppose, how often will I need the boot light? Had the car a year and didn't even know I had one. Haha.

Cheers

As suspected, I don't have a boot light, the carpet covers it. I can feel where the fibreglass has been moulded round where it should be. Another suspect could be my interior light, has anyone ever had issues with that? When I bought the car those wires were cut.

No but without stating the obvious you would see it!. Have feel at your alternator then, dose it feel warm even after standing overnight?

Hi All

Just went to start mine after a few weeks and electrics going crazy, tapping noise from dash, needles randomly spinning, various lights flashing and alarm going off, puzzled as its always on an accumate, currently have conventional charger on it but I guess my battery too has not survived the long winter. At least I hope its just the battery!! Does any one know if you have to reset the immobiliser after battery problems/swap?

Thanks

Steven

Apologies for the necro-thread but having just bought a Varta E24 on the strength of this thread, I have found that it clamps along the long edge and my Sagaris clamps along the short edge.
(edit: having not read the thread in enough detail to see others had the same issue. D'Oh!!!)

In case it helps anyone else who googles into this thread like I did, the Yuasa YBX3069 is similar dimensions (9mm longer, but that's ok), same terminal layout (left hand +ve), similar Ah (actually 2A higher at 72Ah vs 70Ah) and same CCA at 630. And, crucially, it clamps along the short edge.
