Anyone know how much oil you need to go from Min to Max on the dipstick? In 4,400 miles (so 5,400 total on the car) my oil level has gone from full to halfway between max and min. I want to top it up, but don't want to put too much in. As you all know, you can't recheck the level without running the engine for a few minutes again which is a bit of a pain (in the forarm usually).

Thanks.

Difference between minimum and maximum oil level marks is 1 litre. On the Speed Six an oil level check with a hot engine will read a quarter higher than if checked when cold.Consequently a cold engine showing three quarters full on the dip stick is actually full. No more burnt arms...

Is this really true? We were told (maddog-uk) that we had to only check it when warm. So far we have consumed no oil, which means we are getting nervous! We have done 3500 miles now!

I know what you mean, now done just over 4,000 miles and used no oil. obviously not driving it hard enough
Have never checked when cold. Would make life a lot easier if that is right.

Chimper is correct, I was a little concerned when checked cold oile level half way between min and max, when checked hot just after switching off shows max.

Only cost me £32 for oil that I did not need,0 - 40 Castrol RS fully synthetic 2 for the price of 1 at Halfords at the moment.
